Twenty-six different serotypes have been identified, and the ability of each strain to cause disease varies widely. BTV can infect a wide range of domestic and wild ruminants - sheep, goats, cattle, buffalo, deer, most species of African antelope and camels. For the study period (2011-2021), outbreaks were declared in 21 member states in Europe with predominant serotypes 1, 4 and 8. Based on data from Animal Disease Information System (ADIS) with the present paper we analyzed the distribution of the BTV serotypes within the affected countries and found that particular serotypes tend to spread to particular countries. The development of regulatory measures for prevention, surveillance and eradication of BT is discussed based on the European legislation.

Research has shown that the attractiveness of educational services is dependent on factors with national-international characteristics and factors based on the demographic profile of students. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to investigate the motivators which influence students` personal attitudes towards studying veterinary medicine in English at Trakia University, Bulgaria. METHODS: A five-year survey among 93 first-year English speaking students in veterinary medicine at Trakia university was conducted through anonymous written questionnaire between 2015 and 2019. Data obtained were statistically processed. RESULTS: Significant differences were found for several factors which drove respondents` motivation in choosing their master's degree. Among these factors were gender, parents` occupational profile, country of origin, tuition fees, as well as existing experience in breeding, interaction with animals and volunteering in the veterinary field. The most preferred source of information for veterinary medicine programmes and universities appeared to be recommendations from respondents` relatives, friends and mentors. CONCLUSION: Understanding the motivation drivers of English-speaking veterinary students will help the improvement of the educational service offered and the competitiveness of the institution internationally.

METHODS: A sociological survey through a questionnaire with open and closed questions was sent to veterinarians throughout the country personally or via e-mail. RESULTS: Veterinary practitioners in Bulgaria are not legally engaged in disaster prevention, excluding the prevention of contagious animal diseases. At the same, time veterinarians could assist the population not only in case of biological contamination but also in any crisis situation caused by natural, technical, and human factors. The study showed that one-third (34.38%, n=11) of the respondents had supplied their practices with emergency equipment, while 75% (n=24) of them had secured the continuity of communications. Another 21.88 % (n=7) of respondents had arranged in advance a meeting place for staff after evacuation to meet and plan the reorganization of their activities. Only 3.13% (n=1) of the respondents had conducted simulated evacuations in arranged training. CONCLUSIONS: The findings could be used for drafting guidelines and teaching materials for professional training, enhancing the veterinary practitioners to perform more effectively in emergencies and thus raise the disaster resilience of the community as a whole.

At the same time, urban environment has made its population curious of their surrounding nature, including wildlife. Zoos appear to be an appropriate tool to introduce wild animals to people in a safe and interesting way, providing new experiences and even education to several generations. With the development of animal ethics and nature protection, zoos started to play another important role as centres for wildlife conservation. International regulations were set in order to ensure standards for proper treatment of zoo animals. However, there are still places where wild animal welfare is in question. This paper aims to discuss the arguments for and against keeping wild animals in captivity and to emphasize the impact zoo conservation programmes could have on both animals and humans.

The existence of animals begins to be seen not only as an element of property, but also gaining self-worth, and it requires an understanding of the ability of animals to feel pain, stress and suffering. Cruelty to animals has a wide public outreach and requires special attention by state competent authorities and judicial authorities to control, detect and sanction different acts of animal cruelty. Such acts should be treated as socially dangerous actions and the perpetrators should be prosecuted as there is a scientifically proven connection between cruel treatment of animals and lasting irreversible consequences on the human mentality with subsequent criminal acts. According to the national legislation of the different countries, acts of cruelty are being criminalized concerning different categories of animals or only some of them - pets, productive animals, experimental animals. Paraffin sections from control and experimental mice were subjected to Mowris alcian blue histochemical staining followed by a PAS reaction. A differentiation of the acid mucopolysaccharides in histochemical tests with alcian blue at pH 1.0 and pH 2.5 was conducted. The histochemical reactivity was determined using light microscopy analysis and subsequently photo-documented. After the oral administration of 3.5 mg ambroxol structural changes in the glandular and coating epithelium were not found. The secreted glucoseaminoglycans did not show any changes but the secretion in the trachea and lungs was influenced at different rates.
