Th irty-two ejaculates were examined. From each ram 4 ejaculates were collected at 10-min intervals in the morning and in the aft ernoon. Semen parameters, namely, color, density, transparency, volume, concentration, motility, and abnormal sperm, for each ejaculate were determined. Th e sperm motility was assessed from the moment of dilution up to 60 min at 10-min intervals, then again at 90 min and 120 min. Th e semen characteristics were determined by means of "Motic Image Plus" equipment and the data were processed statistically. Sperm volume and concentration in semen samples decreased gradually with increase in ejaculation frequency. Th e values were signifi cantly lower for the 4th ejaculate compared to preceding ones (P < 0.05). Th e highest survival rate (P < 0.05) of sperm was found in the 2nd ejaculate, and this trend was preserved up to the second hour. Up to 50 min aft er dilution, the sperm motility did not change considerably, aft er which it was found to be reduced (P < 0.05). Th e frequency of ejaculation and the period of semen collection had an impact on sperm motility in extended and shorttime stored semen from Pleven Blackhead rams. Th e spermatozoa in a 2nd ejaculate showed higher survival rates and could be recommended for additional processing.

Twenty Bulgarian local goats, aged between 2 and 4 years, weighing 46–52 kg with previously confirmed pregnancy were used in the study. Ultrasound investigations were performed during the 56 - 133 day of pregnancy, at a 2- week interval, via transabdominal approach and an 8.0 MHz linear transducer. Initially, the fetal and uterine structures were visualized in two-dimensional mode (B-mode), and then reconstructed into three-dimensional<br> images using 3D software of the ultrasound machine (SonoScape S2 Vet). The results of this study have shown that 3D ultrasonography is a comparatively easy method to visualize individual parts of the fetus and its internal organs during the second and third pregnancy trimester. At the beginning of the second pregnancy trimester, it was ...

Uterine secretions and milk from six cows with clinical metritis were collected for microbiological assay. The animals were treated intramuscularly with long-acting oxytetracycline (20 mg/kg) and samples of plasma, milk and uterine secretions were collected for determination of the antibiotic concentrations by HPLC-PDA analysis. Pharmacokinetics of the antibiotic and in silico prediction of its penetration into the uterus were described. Trueperella pyogenes with MIC values of 16–64 µg mL−1 was isolated (n of cows = 4) from uterine secretions. Oxytetracycline showed fast absorption and penetration in the uterine secretions and milk. No change of withdrawal time for milk was necessitated in cows with clinical metritis. Maximum levels in uterine secretions and predicted concentrations of oxytetracycline in the ute...

The causes of the disease are discussed, the clinical signs and the echographic findings are described. The haematologi-cal, blood biochemical parameters and progesterone concentration were assayed. The gross anatomical and histological changes in the genital tract are reported. The presented case showed that in sheep hydrometra was not accompanied by deviations in the general health condition, haematological and blood biochemical profile. Progesterone level did not correspond to value indicating pregnancy. A strong thinning of the uterine wall, aseptic fluid in the uterine cavity and persistent corpus luteum in one ovary were found out. In the endometrium, there were extensive lesions and strands dilatation of superficially located uterine glands. In order to diagnose hydrometra in sheep, we recommend two echographic examinations and visualization of intrauterine anechoic fluid, thinned uterine wall and lack of embryo and placentomas. Key words: sheep; hydrometra

On physical examination, there were no changes in the general condition of the animal. Complete blood counts and blood biochemistry results did not show any deviations from reference values and did not indicate sepsis development. After ultrasonography, foetal debris was observed and radiography confirmed the presence of parts of two foetuses in the abdominal cavity. Median laparotomy revealed macerated foetus (hair and bones) in the abdominal cavity, ruptured left uterine horn near to the bifurcation and a macerated foetus inside the horn. Due to the adhesions between the omentum and the uterus and pathological alterations of the uterine wall in the ruptured area, ovariohysterectomy was performed. The clinical examination had been performed for ten days until the bitch showed good recovery.

Twenty-four animals of a local breed within the first to fifth month of lactation, bred at the clinical facilities of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and private farms in the Yambol and Stara Zagora districts, were included in the study. During the B-mode ultrasonography of the different mammary structures, the 5 MHz ultrasound probe was placed in horizontal and vertical position related to the examined subject. Two methods of examination were used-direct (transcutaneous ultrasonography) and immersion of the examined organ in water ("water bath" method). The mammary papilla was best scanned in vertical position, whereas the mammary parenchyma-in horizontal probe position. The application of the "water bath" method was more effective when examining the mammary papilla, and the transcutaneous method-when examining the structures in the other areas of the mammary gland. There were differences in the visualizations of the separate structures of the udder, depending on the presence or not of the offspring. It is thus recommended to perform ultrasonography of lactating goat's mammary gland at least 2 hours after the last milking or separation of the offspring from goats.
