University Applicants 2006 (original) (raw)

I have decided that I cannot live where I live anymore, I must get away as soon as possible.I originally had my finished UCAS list, but I've decided to scratch my reach school that required 32 IB points, for ... something that's safer, but I also realize that few things can be considered a safety for me, as I received 30 IB points (...).Anyway, I was wondering if you guys had any places to recommend that would be suitable to apply to? I've looked through ucas without much luck (is Goldsmith's insanely hard to get into? They only required 28 points for some combination of history and something else, but I figure they are pretty hard anyway). I'm applying for history and or religious studies. Preferably in the London area, but going outside is no problem at all.Cross posted in ukuni, uni2006 & uni2007 (sorry).

Study Abroad | [18 Dec 2006|02:20pm] |

I'm going to apply for a place as a visiting student for 2007-08 at a UK university fairly soon (deadline's a month away), and I'm still not sure where.I've worked my way down to a shortlist including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, St. Andrews and Oxford, but the questions just keep piling up.Why? What? Where? How?I'm looking to study modern history, with the possible addition of oriental languages and introdutory and international law, as part of my bachelor of history at NTNU (Norwegian University of Nature and Science - yeah, I'm a Norwegian, if you hadn't already guessed ;)).If there's anyone out there with something to share, then don't hesitate. Any views/experiences are veeery welcome.I worry too much.Sigh.

good food doesn't have to be expensive | [19 Oct 2006|10:17pm] |

[ **mood** | happy ] hi guys - hope you're all doing well at uni or elsewhere. hope you can take a few minutes to read this post!because our years at university can be hectic, sometimes food and eating healthily can be put on the back burner; it's not surprising, then, that "student food" has now become synonymous with junk foods like kebabs!but healthy eating doesn't have to be a chore, nor does it have to be expensive.my mum has set up a website around this fact, where there will be tips for eating on a budget and getting 5 portions of fruit & vegetables a day as well as ideas for weekly menus (getting the most out of a sunday roast!).it is still under construction, but bit by bit we are adding more and more recipes, tips & hints.take a look and bookmark it so you don't forget to check back!there's even a forum, so you can ask specific questions (or vague ones, for that matter) or request a recipe

Hey guys,I've decided to apply to SOAS (after a lot of back and forth) for Tibetan and Nepali, but I'm also applying to other schools [all for philosophy], and SOAS is very specialized and, well my question is, do you guys think that they'll consider me seriously even if I don't talk about Tibetan and Nepali all the way across my personal statement? I don't think I can afford to with all the schools I'm applying to for philosophy being more "safety-ish" schools.Cross-posted.

So I got my paperwork about my loan and according to the payment schedule, my first payment will be made on the 18th (when my course starts) however I arrive at my uni on the 13th so I'll have no money till the 18th or something. My accommodation has to be paid the moment I arrive and I won't get my key until I do. Is anyone else concerned about the date of when their loan gets paid? And does anyone know who I can contact to get some help with this? I'm not sure whether to phone the uni or the loan people... :/

Southampton Uni accommodation | [20 Aug 2006|01:11am] |

Hi everyone. I'll be going to Southampton Uni in October and I've just been allocated housing. I'm in Brunei House, Glen Eyre Halls Complex. I've read alarming things about this House on Google, but the letter in question was dated 2001/2002, so I'm still hopeful. Anyone who knows, can you tell me about this house? Am I right to be wary? Also, what does it look like (I can find no pictures of it anywhere). Thanks in advance. ~Relaynie

I hope people got what they needed in their exams!I just thought that it might be a good idea do to a kind of comprehensive list of Universities, and which members of this community are going where? Then you can add your new potential friends and get to know them for the next month and a bit?I'm going to Cambridge, is there anyone else?

Calling is scary... | [17 Aug 2006|12:43am] |

Sorry for spamming the community :X Especially now that A-levels are due (?). Hope you guys got the results you were hoping for.I was wondering what happens if (and yes, this is another stupid question) I enroll in university classes now, when my plan is to apply through UCAS this fall/winter.Does it make me a non-traditional student?Do they disregard my IB grades and only look at the uni grades I might get (i.e. give me a conditional offer :S )?(Does it depend on the subjects I take?)Does it not matter at all? (I realize that taking classes probably won't give me credit, and I don't want that either.)Do you guys think the universities have a preference as to whether or not I spend this could-be gap year working or taking classes?

perhaps a silly question, but nevertheless a pressing one...does anyone know what actually happens tomorrow? besides the results, i mean.we got a letter reminding us and telling us to take our UCAS name & password - why would that be? do we have to stay quite a while, because i have plans for lunch... hehei'm sure things are different school to school, but if anyone knows i'd be grateful to hear. thanks & good luck!x
