As such, Africa is easily subjected to exploitation by stronger and wealthier economies like China. China has emerged as a large overseas investor, and is currently the second largest net creditor after Japan. China is a resource-poor country relative to its extremely large population, while Africa on the other hand is resource-rich compared to its population. China is investing everywhere, especially in Africa and China h a s supplanted the United States as Africa's most important trading partner. This paper assessed China's engagement in Africa and Africa's development crisis. It posits that China's engagement with Africa is a win-win scenario for both sides. The review and thorough analysis of some articles, literatures, and the application of Joseph Nye's soft power theory helped in assessing Chinese direct investment in Africa, transfer of technical knowledge, and China's loan to Africa particularly through the Chinese Export and Import (EXIM) bank. The major finding is that China's engagement in Africa is not bias and Chinese workers help in providing missing skills in Africa for faster construction of infrastructure for instance. Asides Vietnam, Africa's economies attracts labour-intensive manufacturing from China basically due to low wages and competitive exchange rates. China is working towards shaping the global financial architecture and is been heavily criticized by Western powers. It is recommended that the United States and other Western powers should welcome the Chinese initiative.

Without it, democracy will lack the vital organ that will operationalize its tenets and define its tempo. It is regarded as the first estate of the realm because it kick-starts the entire gamut of government practices by laying the enabling constitutional foundation via law-making; it sets the frameworks for policy-making, annual budgeting, administration of justice, securitization of peace, and external relations. It then follows that when the legislature is defective democracy systematically becomes defective, a situation which naturally leads to a negation of good governance, especially in compelling the executive organ to guarantee the welfare and security of all. What this paper seeks to do is a teleological taxonomy and x-ray of Nigeria's democracy against the background of the character of the legislature since the commencement of the fourth republic. Adopting the structuralfunctional theory, secondary data collection, and descriptive-historical analysis method, the study finds out that the legislature in the said Republic has not succeeded in taking its rightful place in our democratic experimentation because of some intravenously debilitating drawbacks like incompetence, proclivity for corruption, susceptibility to executive high-handedness and propensity to delve into project and policy implementation for eccentric reasons. The paper then suggests that the only way the executive can be put on its toes to do the needful is for Nigerians to be mindful of those elected into the legislative chambers.

The problem of the Arab unrest was systematically seasoned by political and economic frustration, which was manifested in the event that led to the demise of Bouazizi and ignited the Tunisian revolution. The paper captures some of the major driving forces of the Arab spring and analyses the nature of human suffering in those areas affected. The paper used an existing library literature to draw its deductive instrument of analysis. The paper adopted the library descriptive instrument from historical research to come up with the available data in the paper. Findings show that, since 1949, the struggle between the Nationalist Republic of China and the Communist party escalated into a civil war which resulted in the defeat of Kuomintang and the establishment of the People's Republic of China (PRC), which took control of all mainland China. Only the island of Taiwan remained under the control of the ROC. Since then, both the ROC and the PRC have been claiming to represent all of "China", and both officially claim each other's territory. The paper concludes that China cannot forfeit the strait of Taiwan despite American support to the island. The deteriorating relationship between the U.S and China relationship has seen trade wars to accusations on the ...

It analyses structure through which the belt and road initiative may facilitate the effective implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA). Using the library literature findings show that the belt and road initiative is a cutting edge that will provide infrastructure and investment which in turn facilitates specialization of African countries in some specific vital areas based on comparative advantage and allows for wider freedom and chances of African countries to trade among themselves and continue to be relevant in the international markets. The paper concludes that, Africa has had relations in the past and will not make a mistake of repetition of such relations that were colonially oriented and exploitative in nature. Africa and China have discovered a great opportunity of mutual trust and mutual benefits in their cooperation process and are committed to harnessing such benefits. The paper recommends massive industrial takeoff and aggressive technological build-up of African continent to aid in the realization of the objectives of the ACFTA among other things.

It also analyses the future of ACFTR especially with the technical support African states will be enjoying through their collaboration with China or in the absence of such support, how Africa may utilize the opportunities available and the likely challenges to encounter in the implementation of ACFTA. Using the secondary source of data, findings show that the implementation of ACFTA can lead to substantial higher bilateral trade between China and Africa. The paper concludes that both in the short and long run, China and African countries stand to benefit immensely in the implementation of ACFTA. The paper recommends that African countries should ratify and domesticate ACFTA and should collaborate with China for the purpose of harnessing the opportunities and surmounting the likely challenges that may emanate from the implementation process.

Using the library's documented instrument and historical descriptive methodology, findings show that the Silk Road is historically connected with the Eastern and Western civilizations and culture. Merchants on the Silk Road transported goods and traded at bazaars along the way. They traded goods such as silk, spices, tea, ivory, cotton, wool, precious metals, and ideas. The Silk Road also enabled cultural transfers, for instance when Genghis Khan and the Mongols invaded China, they came along with their own culture, e.g., buttons on clothes were introduced in China as a cultural import from Central Asia especially under the rule of Kublai Khan during the Yuan Dynasty. The paper concludes that the Silk Road rose to prominence during the Han and Tang dynasties. The long-distance tr...
