The relationship between this centre and the physicist Aldo Romano, considered its founder, created a new identity for the University of Bari, marked by the technological innovations of applied physics and by a new bond with his territory. Romano raised a question in 1965 in one of his articles: “What can an electronic calculator do for the university?”. It included the idea of using the emerging technology to give a future to the Academy as knowledge enterprise. At the time, he acknowledged that Computer science was able to transform the traditional methods of scientific work, administrative management and education. It could create the conditions to bring life back to the occupational southern
area. In the past fifty years, Csata has assumed various configurations – as an association, a consortium, a scientific and technological park – but in the meantime has always kept close ties with the University of Bari, as established by Romano at its start.

The lesions were treated as during previous wars with known galenic remedies, based on natural substances, and with medicines in which iodine was the main antiseptic. In all the armies, preventive hygiene rules were adopted which included the use of ointments based on oils, fats or potassium, enriched with paraffin, vaseline, camphor and other anti-inflammatory substances, according to availability. The comparison between the remedies adopted by the armies in the present war and in the previous ones showed that new discoveries were not introduced but new compositions of similar but more economic and common substances, which gave rise to the valorisation of local products.

strongly contributed in the global scientific positioning of the hosting coun-

production and the
change in the national belonging sense of MIT’s scientific
community.

As the first saint to have a photographic documentation, in the 50s of the twentieth century, Padre Pio chose Gaetano Mastrorilli, a photographer from Bari, as the official witness of his evangelical work. The latter created with his shots the image that would idealize the figure of the monk, making his portrait an icon of worship and his gestures a concrete testimony of the action of the Holy. The photos, printed and reproduced on thousands of postcards and holy cards, synthesized the communicative and charismatic abilities of the Capuchin friar, who found in the professional and artistic talent of Mastrorilli the interpreter of an ideal symbiosis of communication between the subject and his photographer. Photography helped to transform the "santino"-holy cardfrom little image linked to the ancient popular religious culture of something magical and superstitious into a modern communicative medium of faith, based on real and spontaneous elements in which evangelization takes place "from the distance" that is, even in the absence of the saint himself.
