Diesbezuglich werden insbesondere die Konzepte der Organisationalen Resilienz sowie der Antifragilitat adressiert. Abschliesend untersucht die Autorin, inwieweit die genannten Argumentationsstrange miteinander harmonieren konnen.

In contrast, the topic of the sustainability of those very structures, processes and means (essentially the question of how things are being done as opposed to what is being done) has received less attention. This paper presents the current results of a research project at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland and the University of Basel concerning an evaluation system for sustainable project implementation and reporting for non-profit organizations. It will be demonstrated that by offering a tool consisting of a comprehensive overview of potentially relevant issues and aspects as well as extensive guidelines for laypersons, the system enables non-profit organizations to pla...

Several Nursing homes (NH) in Germany started to integrate KT in the routine care of residents. The aim of this study was to investigate if caring with KT has effects on caregivers. Methods We conducted a prospective, exploratory, two-armed cohort study to compare NH with (KT group) and without KT (but with routine health preventive interventions; control group) over 12 months. Each NH with KT was matched to a control. Outcomes for caregivers included the SF-12 Health Survey, the Work Ability Index (WAI) and the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ). Results Altogether 111 caregivers were included from 7 NH (KT group, n = 48) respectively 6 NH (control group, n = 63). 95% of caregivers were female (43.4 ± 11.3 years, BMI 26.6 ± 5.3). At baseline, caregivers of the KT group showed better values for the COP-SOQ scales "feedback" (p = 0.043), "job satisfaction" (p < 0.001) and "burnout" (p = 0.008). After 6 months the control group was better in the COPSOQ scales "predictability of work" (p = 0.045) and after 12 months for "sense of community" (p = 0.047) and the physical component scale of the SF-12 (p = 0.039) compared to the KT group. Conclusions The study showed only minor differences between the caregivers of both groups. Caregivers´workability, quality of life and psychosocial burden at work seems to be less influenced by a CIM-oriented working-place approach. ABSTRACT On the background of the widely known and controversially discussed concept of sustainab... more ABSTRACT On the background of the widely known and controversially discussed concept of sustainable development and the ever increasing influence of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on social, environmental and economic issues, this article focuses on how NGOs, specialised in environmental protection and conservation issues, reacted to the holistic societal concept of sustainable development which aims at finding solutions not only to environmental, but also to social and economic issues. For this purpose, the article investigates whether and to what extent the sustainability concept has been adopted by three worldwide leading environmental conservation NGOs: Greenpeace International, WWF International and IUCN International. The research, conducted in early 2006, reveals that the three organisations integrated the sustainability concept to different degrees depending on the organisations’ dominant value set. The more an organisation is bound to the idea of environmental protection, the less it is inclined to adopt strategies stemming from the sustainability concept whose implicit value system contradicts a strong bio- or eco-centric position. This finding adds evidence to the assumption that the holistic sustainability concept is most likely to be reduced and adapted when addressed by a specialised societal actor such as an NGO. Such insight into the influence of value systems on the actual actions of pressure groups might also be valuable in the light of the ever increasing number of strategic partnerships between NGOs and the private sector. To be familiar with each others’ action-leading key assumptions can significantly contribute to establishing a sound basis for a fruitful and rewarding collaboration.

ABSTRACT The numerous empirical and conceptual studies that have been conducted over recent years... more ABSTRACT The numerous empirical and conceptual studies that have been conducted over recent years concerning the social responsibility of enterprises and their contributions towards sustainable development have given very little consideration to non-profit organizations (NPOs). This is surprising, because NPOs are confronted with very similar challenges to profit-orientated enterprises regarding their evolution into sustainable organizations. This paper is a preliminary conceptual study and explores the question of why the corporate social responsibility, or corporate sustainability, of NPOs has to date been both neglected by research establishments and also extensively ignored by the NPOs during their day-to-day practical management. The example of church and pastoral institutions in Germany is used to demonstrate the extent to which they take account of ecological and social aspects in their management systems and processes and, thus, implement sustainable management within their day-to-day practice. The paper concludes with some proposals for further empirical and conceptual research projects, which are designed to analyze developments within NPOs with relation to the integration of sustainability into their management systems and processes.

Diesbezüglich werden insbesondere die Konzepte der Organisationalen Resilienz sowie der Antifragilität adressiert. Abschließend untersucht die Autorin, inwieweit die genannten Argumentationsstränge miteinander harmonieren können.
