As a result, ICT products become obsolete more quickly and in increased quantities resulting to ever-increasing waste of electrical and electronic equipment (e-waste). Therefore, greater emphasis is required for integrating environmentally sound choices into supply chain management research and practice. Green supply chain management has developed into an important and growing area of strategic advantage for many countries and companies. Closed-loop supply chains are being used to recover assets that would otherwise be lost. This paper presents best practices and challenges faced by Cyprus regarding its closed loop in the ICT industry. It investigates the performance and satisfaction regarding closed-loop supply chains in Cyprus. The findings and interpreta...

To truly "redesign health in Europe for 2020", 3 perhaps the EU should also consider stepping out from the boundaries of national systems towards the development of a European system: since patients travel regularly to other EU member states, their records should not be available only to their country of origin or their economic and political region. An attempt to answer these questions was made by analysing the secondary Eurostat data for five European countries: Cyprus, Ireland, Portugal, Slovenia, and the United Kingdom. Reviewing the differences between those with home dial-up access and those with broadband at home indicates that broadband does correlate with change in the Web uses, and various suggestions are made about why this is occurring. Having access to broadband at home certainly increases the probability of using the internet for participatory and creative activities like sharing opinions within different online environments. The analysis also indicates that factors which are commonly associated with the basic digital divide are replicated in the broadband divide.

As businesses move online, as administrative procedures are automated, as health care administration is computerized and as digital signatures and e-payments are introduced, the importance of smartcards has increased exponentially. This paper analyzes the marketing situational environment in Cyprus regarding smartcards and concentrates on a proposition of strategies that could be employed by a multinational organization for introducing multifunctional smartcards in the Cyprus market. A market research has been carried out within Cyprus, and a marketing plan for penetrating the Cyprus market is proposed.

This potential is growing continuously due to the new technological developments in information communication technologies, opening up significant economic and social opportunities. In this digital, information based economy, people are the core. This paper, presents the initial results from a project funded by the Research Promotion Foundation (Government of Cyprus) for the expansion of the internet in the rural areas of the country, so as to give all citizens equal opportunities for access to the new information communication technologies. This will enable the development of e-commerce in various sectors of the Cypriot economy. It will promote new tools and methodologies for electronic transactions and infrastructures, as well as the exploitation of information technology and communications in education and culture, the promotion of egovernment and new services for the citizen and the enterprises, and access to the Information Society. Moreover, it will facilitate the reduction of the digital divide that characterizes the provinces as compared to the urban regions.
