This scoping review aims to analyse the literature of the last ten years on the strategies and attitudes of parents towards online risks. Twenty-nine scientific documents about parental mediation outcomes on children’s use of digital tools have been examined. Literature has been investigated in the PubMed, PsycINFO and Scopus databases. Only studies with a paediatric population published in the last ten years (from 2009) have been selected. The results suggest that empathy and interest are protective factors towards the exposure and perpetration of online risks of children, without limiting the opportunities offered by the Web.

Online Risks in Children with Special Educational Needs: An exploratory study, 2021

Some recent studies suggest that they also experience more online risks and that they more frequently receive online sexual requests compared to typically development peers. Method: The present study aims to analyze the risky use of the internet in a small group of children with special educational needs: Learning Disabilities (LD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) compared to that of a small group of typically developing peers. Also, the study shows the perception of parents of both groups about their children internet use. Results: Children with special educational needs who participated in this study were found to be more at risk of perpetration or suffering cyber-bullying, being contacted online by strangers and receive requests for intimate pictures. Small differences also emerged in the parental mediation of these children which is more restrictive compared to that of parents of typically developing children. Conclusion: Results, although they cannot be generalized due to the small number of participants, suggest that it may be important to further study and deeply analyze the use of the web of children with special educational needs.

In the present study, we used a person-centered approach to identify different subtypes of video game players and we explored how they differ in personality profiles, clinical symptoms, and video game usage.

Several studies in literature have shown that students with dyslexia achieve lower results in university examinations, while other research supports the thesis that they experience anxiety and frustration to a greater extent than university students without a diagnosis. This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of goal setting and self-monitoring training in reducing anxiety, improving academic performance and increasing the on-task time of a 22-year-old student with a late diagnosis of dyslexia. The results of the study show improvements in all areas: study test scores (AMOS test) and resilience were increased while anxiety perception decreased (measures assessed with the QAR of the AMOS test).

The present review aims to explore the main difficulties reported by parents of children with autism and the most used interventions to provide them support to date. Methods: 26 research articles published from 2006 to 2019 were selected and compared, specifically 10 quantitative and 16 qualitative studies, in which the following topics were discussed: parental stress in the presence of autism, presence of guidelines for intervention and relative difficulties to the achievement of the diagnosis. Results: The results of the review analysis indicate that parental stress is one of the difficulties in assuming a primary role. Parents caring for a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder have been shown to experience significantly higher levels of stress than parents of typically developing children. Conclusions: The presence of guidelines and the difficulties in achieving a diagnosis are closely related to the issue of parental stress, increasing or decreasing the perceived stress of parents.
