The physico-chemical characteristics and correlation coefficient were studied and analyzed during janauary-december 2011. Seasonal fluctuations in water samples of Paler reservoir in different seasons were observed. The results revealed that there was significant seasonal variation in some physico-chemical parameters and most of the parameters were in normal range and indicated for better quality of reservoir water. Correlation coefficient indicates showed high significant positive and negative relationship (p<0.01) and also show significant positive and negative relationship (p<0.05).

Methods Retrospective, non-randomized, comparative, interventional case series of 119 eyes (63 with and 56 without MMC augmentation) of 119 patients who had PDS between September 2001 and April 2004. Results The mean follow-up was 23 months (range 12-41 months). There were no differences in the baseline characteristics of the two groups except that patients from the phacoemulsification and deep sclerectomy with mitomycin C (PDS-MMC) group were on average, younger by 3 years (P ¼ 0.01). Two years after surgery, the probability of maintaining an IOP below 19 and 15 mmHg without glaucoma medications or needle revision was 76 and 62% in the PDS-MMC group and 62 and 45% in the PDS-no MMC group (P ¼ 0.02 and 0.04, respectively). Nd:YAG laser goniopuncture was performed in 71.4% of eyes in the PDS-no MMC and 61.9% of the PD-MMC group (P ¼ 0.33). Needle revision was performed in 21.4% of the PDS-no MMC and 17.4% of the PDS-MMC group (P ¼ 0.65). Ten patients (8.4%) lost more than two lines of Snellen's visual acuity during follow-up, with no difference between the groups. There were few serious complications related to MMC use (hypotony in one eye after laser goniopuncture). The overall incidence of transconjunctival oozing in the PDS-MMC group was 9.5% compared with 5.4% in the PDS-no MMC group. Conclusion This study demonstrates that augmentation of PDS with MMC is safe. MMC augmentation appears to increase the probability of achieving lower target intraocular pressures after combined PDS.

This molecule is characterized by a dual mechanism of action, since it acts on both adrenergic and dopaminergic receptors. The adrenergic action is responsible for a marked mydriasis without accommodative paralysis, while the dopaminergic action promotes the production of aqueous humor. Given this dual action, ibopamine may be useful for diagnostic purposes in ophthalmology. This review article aims at presenting the most intriguing evidence on ibopamine and discusses the profile of patients who may be best suitable to this molecule.

Laser-assisted intrastromal keratomileusis (LASIK) and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) may be used in accommodative esotropia either in adolescent or in adult patients. Some authors have shown that LASIK is safe, effective, and stable at 10 years follow-up post-surgery. A 14-year-old boy was admitted to our outpatient department on 08-01-2008. Together with his parents he asked for both eyes to be operated on by myopic PRK. On September 5(th) 2008 a myopic PRK was performed on his right eye and on September 12(th) 2008 on his left eye. A Bausch & Lomb Z172 excimer laser was used to perform a Planoscan procedure on both eyes. Uncorrected visual acuity was 1.0 after both procedures. The patient did not suffer pain, haze or glare in postoperative follow-up. Apart from the surgical technique, the author raises questions about the ethics of this procedure in a young boy.

The magnocellular component of ganglion cells in human retina is isolated as a whole by the FDT stimulus. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of Humphrey Matrix threshold testing in the detection of early functional retinal impairment in ocular hypertensive patients compared to standard automated perimetry (SAP). Methodology: Forty hypertensive patients were enrolled in this longitudinal observational clinical study. Functional testing included randomly Humphrey Matrix perimetry and white-on-white Humphrey visual field perimetry. Ibopamine test was performed in all forty patients. The cut-off of 3 mmHg was considered positive for this provocative test. Results: Out of 40 patients, we included 21 in ibopamine positive group and 19 in ibopamine negative group. These two groups are sex- and age-matched. In ibopamine positive group the mean increase in IOP is 4.6 mmHg (ranging...

This drug contributes to a small reduction of IOP in glaucomatous patients who are poorly responsive to multi-therapy treatment. The aim of this study is to report changes of visual field parameters after oral supplement of forskolin, rutin and vitamins B1 and B2. Patients and Methods: This is a single center, retrospective study. It was conducted on files of 30 (13 M, 17 F) glaucomatous patients and 10 (4 M, 6 F) controls. All these patients were affected by open-angle glaucoma under monotherapy but this association was supplemented only once a day to 30 patients as long as 12 months. The ophthalmological data (IOP, pachymetry, visual field assessment by FDT 30-2 strategy mean deviation and pattern standard deviation) were checked at time 0, 6 months and 12 months from the beginning of the oral therapy. The statistical analysis was performed by descriptive...

This is a randomized, crossover, open-labeled, two- center study. Forty patients (20 open-angle glaucoma patients and 20 healthy subjects) were treated with ibopamine 2% eye drops and phenylephrine 10% eye drops. Ibopamine induced a significant increase in IOP only in glaucomatous eyes (p<0.001) without a significant hypertensive effect in normal eyes. Ibopamine and phenylephrine showed a similar mydriatic activity but ibopamine was able to induce an hypertensive effect only in glaucomatous eyes. The results confirm the use of ibopamine as provocative test in detection of hydrodynamic disorders.

The aim was to establish whether electrofunctional examinations improved after major IOP reduction. Only one eye at random was operated, and the fellow eye was used as control. The aim of this study, using electrofunctional examinations, was to clarify whether ganglion cell damage was reversible after marked reduction of IOP by surgery. The results indicate that glaucomatous damage seems to be irreversible.
