In this paper the focus is on the VET system (Vocational Education and Training), which represents an important node in the training of young people in Europe. Within the theoretical framework, in the specific evidence of the passage from a school-based learning to a work-based learning, we will start a reflection on some assessment and validation practices implemented in Europe, within the AppSkill+ work, an Erasmus+ project aimed at developing and testing an app-based tool dedicated to the evaluation and validation, highlighting circularity, triangulation, continuous assessment and digitalization of the processes.

The Conference, originally planned for May 2020, was forcefully postponed due to the dramatic insurgence of the pandemic. Despite the difficulties in this period, the Organising Committee decided anyway to keep it, although online and more than one year later, not to disperse the huge work of authors, mainly teachers, who had to face one of the hardest challenges in the last decades, in a historic period where the promotion of social justice and equal opportunities – through digital technologies and beyond – is a key factor for democratic citizenship in our societies. The Organising Committee, the University of Florence, and ATEE wish to warmly thank all the authors for their commitment and understanding, which ensured the success of the Conference. We hope this book could be, not only a witness of these pandemic times, but a hopeful sign for an equal and inclusive education in all countries.

The outcome of the project, recently discussed, allows us to highlight some of the dynamics in teachers’ innovation-related practices, reducing the weight of many conversations that combine innovation with technology, bypassing the human context in which the innovation would find place and meaning. The aim of the project was, in fact, to give teachers the opportunity to undertake a course on the pedagogical use of the device, and enquiry into the main pedagogical problems and opportunities related to the use of mobile devices in the classroom, with the support of a research center and the competence of a team of researchers: teachers ...

Aided by the massive expansion of social networks among the younger generation (CENSIS, 2012, Nielsel, 2012), many groups are spontaneously opened by students on Facebook, while it is rare that such spaces are opened and moderated by a university Tutor. Some recent studies emphasize the complexity of managing in a functional way not only the communication stream, but also the production of contents (Rivoltella & Ferrari, 2010). The aim of this case study, focusing on a Community of freshmen enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Degree course at the Catholic University of Brescia (2011/12 academic year), is to advance a proposal of a moderation model in the 2.0 environment. The research methodology was based on the mixed method approach (Creswell, 2003): 10 structured interviews were conducted with some members of the group...

Caritas Ambrosiana, based on a ‘pedagogy of facts’, proposes interventions to promote soft skills in schools. This non-formal education agency committed Research Center about Media Education, Innovation and Technology (CREMIT) of Catholic University for a project to improve their school programme and training effectiveness. We chose the participatory action research paradigm to verify how to design an educational path by applying third-space principles in the school context and how digital media can be embedded into the practice to enable a more porous exchange of experiences and expertise between students, educators and the school curriculum. The accompanying plan was designed on the basis of the initial questionnaire data analysis: sociomateriality was the main focus because it was considered by Caritas educators as one of the least important elements to include in the design process. The se...

The three ages of media describe a shift from technology for distance education, to technology-supported groups and, currently, technology for Community development. Reflecting on the profile of the e-tutor in the third phase of e-learning, our research was guided by three key-questions: what functions does the e-tutor fulfill? What tools does the e-tutor need? What actions should the e-tutor take care of, in term of communication? The research plan, carried out on 9 online courses, is based on quanti-qualitative method (a pre-course survey, a post-course survey, learning analytics, content analysis of tutor's interactions and self-report). The results highlight the strategic role of the e-tutor in new contexts of learning.

This paper aims to study the Facebook pages of two Italian professional communities "Orizzonte Scuola" and "La Scuola che Funziona". It wants to understand how necessary, in our case studies, Facebook spaces are for professional development and informal learning. We adopted a quali-quantitative research methodology: 20 structured interviews were conducted to members and founders of the spaces and a communication analysis was made of the posts published on the Facebook wall. The results revealed some interesting topics such as: members’ perceptions of informal learning, strengths and weaknesses of online spaces, "depth" of communication and other professional topics.
