”30 Years of Inspiring Academic Economic Research – From the Transition to Market Economy to the Interlinked Crises of 21st Century”

Environmental problems mitigation and the transition towards a greener economy with the objective... more Environmental problems mitigation and the transition towards a greener economy with the objective of becoming climate neutral is made possible through environmental regulations. Environmental taxes can be considered one of the best instruments needed when elaborating and implementing environmental protection policies, especially because they act as vectors of change that can ensure achieving the sustainable development goals. On the other hand, greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere rose to new records in 2019 and act as obstacles in becoming climate neutral and achieving the Goal 13 of sustainable development, the latter addressing the urgent need to adopt measures meant to combat climate change and its impact, therefore measures designed to decarbonize economic activities, especially in countries with higher emissions of greenhouse gases. In this context, the main objective undertook in this research paper was to estimate the amount of environmental tax revenues based on the greenhouse gas emissions in the case of EU members plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. Results highlight strong correlations and statistically significant between the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and two types of environmental tax revenues: energy and transport. The linear cross-sectional econometric methodology (least-squares method) was applied to the data referring to the year 2018. However, results point to the fact that the only valid econometric model constructed is the one estimating the transport environmental tax revenues based on the levels of greenhouse gas emissions.

Focus on organic products derived from demand for healthy foods with high quality standards that limited the use of chemical substances. This chapter analyses knowledge about organic product consumption in general and wine consumption in particular. The resulting framework for organic wine shows that the sector is still expanding, though organic wine consumption remains limited to a few consumers. Not only are these consumers few in number, but they seem less affected by the organic certification in terms of their choice; it is just another factor, along with place of origin and brand, to consider. For this type of product at least, the value connected with the organic product concept appears to have unexpressed potential.

Agritourism helps preserve rural lifestyles and landscape and also offers the opportunity to provide "sustainable" or "green" tourism. Organic agriculture is a cultural evolution that finds its origins in a environmentalist culture. Furthermore the focus on these products is due to demand on healthy foods with high quality standard limiting chemical substances usage. It’s clear the link of the organic agriculture with agritourism and tourism services. They have a considerable role in the future development of rural areas. Starting with a review of the sharing economy, the chapter evaluates food-sharing platforms that are taking the social dimensions of dining to new levels. Food sharing comprises diverse concepts indicating a new phenomenon that people in urban spaces, particularly in cities share land to produce food (e.g., community gardens), which also blurs the boundaries between work and home. The case study of food sharing platform BonAppetour.com is presented as an exploratory approach to this relatively new and unique topic. Findings identify key variables in the relationship between local gastronomy, home restaurants, and the competitiveness of the new market.

Research paper thumbnail of Land Grabbing, Land Use, and Food Export Competitiveness: Bibliometric Study of a Paradigm Shift

Shifting Patterns of Agricultural Trade, 2021

Even though land grabbing has been generally approached in relation to transitional economies, agriculture and land grabbing still represent strategic vectors of economic growth, including in the modern economies and knowledge-based societies, mainly because they significantly contribute to assuring food security. Land grabbing is linked to export competitiveness, as the agricultural production structure imposes specific characteristics of the national production of agri-food products and, in some cases, this is how dependency on the imports is generated, in order to ensure food security. This dependency can occur in the case of a few or more types of agri-food products, based on land use. In this context, this chapter aims at performing comparative bibliometric analysis on the topics of land grabbing and food export competitiveness. Findings highlight the intensification of scientific interests concerning bioeconomy and ecological issues in relation to food trade, land grabbing, and land use, as well as the correlation with traditional topics, such as food safety and climate change.

In particular, advanced technologies combining augmented reality can offer a deeply immersive visitor's experience aiming both at providing multifaceted information about the site and enhancing the attractiveness of a tourist destination at the different scales. Thus, the study aims at critically scrutinising the intersection of AR and tourist practices through the analysis of tourism destination stakeholders' perceived value of AR solutions. The aim is to understand how it is crucial to take into account stakeholders' perceptions about cutting-edge technology development, apart from providing practical implications for industry practitioners and local institutional actors. From the methodological standpoint, the article is based on a multimethod approach encompassing fieldwork observation, in addition to a stakeholder and case study approach, aiming at evaluating internal and external stakeholders' perceived value through a qualitative perspective based on semi-structured interviews with institutional actors, entrepreneurs, visitors and local community representatives. The results suggested some critical reflections about the inherent elusiveness of technological innovation in the case it is not incorporated in a long-term sustainable vision.
