The presence of dipolarophiles in the reaction mixtures allows a competitive reaction that converts oximes into isoxazole and isoxazoline derivatives via the intermediate formation of nitrile oxide species.

NMR investigations provide support for the selfassembly dynamics of PC[5] (homopolytopic host molecule) and complementary 1,10-decanediyldiammonium (C 10) guest in solution in the construction of supramolecular polymer networks. Upon variation of the host/guest molar ratio, two distinct types of assemblies were identified in solution: a 1:2 bis-endo-cavity assembly C 10 ⊂PC[5]⊃C 10 (PC[5] cap) and a polycapsular polymer network assembly PC[5]⊃C 10 ⊂PC[5] (PC[5] net). The reversibility of the assembly/disassembly processes of PC[5] net and PC[5] cap upon successive additions of Et 3 N and TFA was also investigated. AFM analysis of PC[5] net revealed the formation of a homogeneous continuous network on surface.

The reactions, performed in CH 2 Cl 2 /H 2 O at 25 • C, have shown good regio-and stereoselectivity. All oxidation products were isolated by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and characterized by MS(EI) or FAB, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, APT, COSY, HSQC, HMBC, ROESY and NOEDS measurements. Seven new oxygenated compounds were also obtained. Under the experimental conditions adopted in this work, only the diene steroids, i.e. 7-dehydrocholesteryl acetate and ergosteryl acetate, undergo hydrolytic oxirane ring opening, whereas Vitamin D 2 and D 3 acetates, containing the triene system and cholesteryl acetate yield only epoxides. The selectivity seems to be controlled by the nucleophilicity of double bonds and by stereoelectronic and steric effects.
