Colours across cultures have been found to influence human perceptions and their mode of communication verbally or non-verbally. The fact remains that different cultures associate’ different notions to colours and these values are deeply crafted in the subconscious mind of the people in these cultures. This study examines the symbolic meaning of different colours in two diverse cultures and societies while understanding that colours hold strong expressive connotations and psychological differences. Data for this research work were obtained through critical case sampling and content analysis was used to study this work. Certain factors such as mythical, religious, historical and cultural meanings were selected for this work. This study adopts the symbolic interactionism theory as conceived by George Herbert Mead and Charles Horlon Cooley. Symbolic interactionists whose main focus were on the micro-level aspects of culture but also centre their attention on how culture is sustained through symbols, values, norms, ideas and objects because they are core elements in which humans use to reinforce and create social realities. Therefore, this work argues that symbolic connotations of colours are universal and are reinforced through human social interaction and their perceptions. It concludes that colours as societal symbols have a large influence on human behaviour and beliefs thereby influencing societal actions and values.

Just like in many civilized societies, it is an endemic vice that has shaken the core fabrics of human civilization and governments are faced with the challenge of eradicating or containing it, as witnessed in China and Nigeria. This research work examines Chinese and Nigerian corruption growth patterns through content analysis. Data were sourced through homogenous purposive sampling method through books, newspapers and journals. Bribes, grafts, abuse of power, nepotism and favoritism were all key factors that were selected for the study due to their prevalence in the two selected countries. The Extractive Corruption Theory, the Prisoner's Dilemma Theory and the Rational Irrationality Theory serve as theoretical framework for this research work. Different factors such as the market economy, low incomes, poverty and the cultural-historical perspectives are identified as the root causes of corruption in both countries. The study suggests stricter regulations, promotion of ethical standards and an independent judiciary as institutional methods to get rid of corruption. It concludes that the reinforcement of anti-corruption agencies' power and the promotion of moral education are constructive ways to deal with corruption. From ancient times, philosophers have propounded thoughts on what exists as the most desirable traits of human. They are all concerned with humans' right attitude, passions and conduct that govern their actions according to human reason. Nevertheless, certain moral virtues are found and acceptable across all cultures such as the Yorùbá and the Chinese. These moral virtues and values are universally acceptable as standards of human nature and its inherent needs. This work aims to examine the moral virtues as depicted by two cultures in the context of Omolúàbí and Junzi respectively. Data for this research work were obtained through homogenous purpose sampling and content analysis was used to study this work. Certain factors such as temperance, wisdom, justice, patience, perseverance and humility were selected for study in this research work. It adopts Aristotle's Nicomachean theory of ethics and African theory of ethics which ascertains that people can be virtuous or learn to be virtuous because it's engraved in certain norms. This paper argues that the virtuous being in Yorùbá and Chinese cultures is one who exhibits practical wisdom, acts rightly, humble and kind to his fellow human beings. It argues that virtue across cultures can be universal and humans should strive to attain or achieve them. It discerns that if humans want to succeed, they must have moral excellence that supports their collective wellbeing. This work concludes that our societies are built on moral standards and humans must strive to attain them.

The Chinese view their culture from a point of superiority. The preeminent of Chinese culture can be traced back to ancient times and this is the foundation on which Chinese history is built. The concept of race superiority and its theories are not new in world history since humans had been categorized into different races based on their colors (black, white, yellow and red). With the categorization of races came the discrimination and the radicalization of certain beliefs about different races of the world. Similarly, the Chinese also developed a strong concept of themselves against other races since the most primitive advancement of time and space. They saw themselves as a unique race, one that was way supreme and stood at the center of the world. At the center of the world, they perceived themselves as existing under heaven (Tian xia天下) or at center and source of the world (Zhongyuan中原), or within the four seas (Zai si hai zhi nei 在四海之内).

Chinese behavior and attitudes are regulated by societal expectations that are based on sex or sexuality and promote the belief that women should be fostering, obliging, and well-mannered while men are thought audacious, belligerent, and tough. When these notions, enforced by society, are ignored, women are seen as rebels, outcasts, or perhaps untraditional. Considering gender stereotypes spread across the Chinese Han cultural group and the Igbo cultural group of Nigeria, this paper examines data obtained via typical case sampling and analyzed by content analysis. Three key elements were identified and examined during this research (stereotypes, discrimination, and inequality of sexes). This work concludes that people find it difficult to disengage from their traditional concepts and views. It recognizes that society maintains belligerent prejudicial attitudes that are generational and create dogma and negative connotations regarding gender stereotypes.

There is no gainsaying that China’s rise, development, and modernization with an economic global power status have facilitated a lot of investments in Africa. China is engaging Africa with the people-to-people exchange, institutional building, training (technical and vocational), and investing in skills acquisition for Africans. China’s investment in Africa is also seen in cultural and educational diplomacy that invites African students to learn, imitate, cultivate, and imbibe Chinese education and knowledge firsthand. The outbreak of Covid-19 in Wuhan, China poses a huge threat to the cultural and educational exchanges that exist between China and Africa.

In Chinese culture, the highest deity is called Shangdi 上帝 or Di 帝. He is the High God or Clan Ancestor as postulated in the earliest-known religious system of the Han Chinese people. The Dao de jing, a controversial document of its authorship provides an insight of achieving the ideal man that Laozi characterizes, he also sets out a precise philosophical ideal for the government to rule the state. He propounds a theory that uses nature to understand human nature and personal events; he sees nature as an impartial judge that treats everything equally. He therefore tried to provide a collaboration of the concept of nature to that of the human life. In view of this he tries to symbolize what the ideal man in this natural phenomenon would be, an ideal man would be that puts himself last and others first, one who welcomes any situation and values everything around him and acts in the simplicity of form but precious at heart This work sets to examine the core concepts of Laozi, his moral claims, his philosophical ideas, political views and make a comparison with an important Chinese Ideology.
