In satellite communication, transfer of signals which is usually a beam of modulated microwaves i... more In satellite communication, transfer of signals which is usually a beam of modulated microwaves is maintained between the ground segment or earth station which consists of transmission, reception equipment and the space segment which consists of the satellite itself. We therefore look into the approaches and methods for satellite communications. The term paper discusses some specific topics which include; the components of a digital satellite communication system, the classifications of satellites, the processes and components of the satellite communication where we talk about the uplink, downlink, transponders and antennas. Then we move onward to discuss the satellite frequency band, satellite access methods which consist of the FDMA, TDMA, and CDMA after which we discuss the Digital Satellite Communication in terms of the Pulse Code Modulator where we talk about signal sampling, encoding, decoding, multiplexing, differential pulse code modulation, and delta modulation. Thereafter, we discuss the limitations, advantages, disadvantages, and applications of the digital satellite communication system.
