Geopolymer binder has been identified to create good adhesion between these two materials. The aim of the study is to characterize the pullout and shear mechanical behavior of laboratory masonry assemblies of wood, geomaterial binder and extruded earth brick. Compression test on the brick were also performed. Full-field deformation of double shear test sample werecarried-out by digital image correlation (DIC) in order to better describe and understand the mechanical behavior. The geopolymer binder show good adhesion properties with mean shear test results around 1.5 MPa and pullout test result around 0.82MPa.

The chemical nature of the entities responsible for the high siliceous species solubility observed in such alkaline concentrated sodium silicate solutions and their evolution according to dilution have been identified. For the most concentrated solution ([Si]=7mol/l; pH=11.56; Si/Na atomic ratio=1.71), the results

Research paper thumbnail of Mutations of the imprinted CDKN1C gene as a cause of the overgrowth Beckwith Wiedemann syndrome: clinical spectrum and functional characterization

Molecular anomalies are mostly epigenetic; however, mutations of CDKN1C are implicated in 8% of cases, including both sporadic and familial forms. We aimed to describe the phenotype of BWS patients with CDKN1C mutations and develop a functional test for CDKN1C mutations. For each propositus, we sequenced the three exons and intron-exon boundaries of CDKN1C in patients presenting a BWS phenotype, including abdominal wall defects, without 11p15 methylation defects. We developed a functional test based on flow cytometry. We identified 37 mutations in 38 pedigrees (50 patients and seven fetuses). Analysis of parental samples when available showed that all mutations tested but one were inherited from the mother. The four missense mutations led to a less severe phenotype (lower frequency of exomphalos) than the other 33 mutations. ...

Research paper thumbnail of Effect of organic modification on the thermal transformations of abentonite during sintering up to 1250°C

XRD data showed that the basal spacing (d 001) was gradually decreased from∼12.80 Å (6.90° (2𝜃)) at room temperature to about 9.97 Å (8.86° (2𝜃)) and 10.08 Å (8.74° (2𝜃)) after calcination at 200, 400 and 600°C for raw and modified bentonites, respectively. Such behaviour was assigned to the loss of physisorbed water molecules (200°C) and to the occurrence of a distorted octahedral metal (complex for modified bentonite) in the clay. Calcinations above 800°C gave rise to a complete distortion of this crystal lattice, leading to the disappearance of d 001 XRD peak due to the dehydroxylation of bentonites. The occurrence of cordierite was enhanced at lower temperature (1100°C instead of 1250°C) in the modified bentonite.

Feeding difficulties are frequently noted, but no study described evolution of gastrointestinal signs during infancy and their management in SRS. The aim of this study was to describe these abnormalities in a large cohort of children with SRS. We included 75 patients (median age 24.3 months (5.1-135.2)) in the study. We retrospectively analysed nutritional status before growth hormone therapy, the frequency of gastrointestinal signs, such as gastroesophageal reflux (GER), vomiting, constipation and feeding difficulties, and nutritional management. Maternal uniparental disomy for chromosome 7 was found in 10 patients and 11p15 hypomethylation in 65 patients. Malnutrition (defined as a weight/expected weight for height ratio <80%) was detected in 70% of the children. Gastrointestinal ...

DNA methylation defects account for 60% of BWS and SRS cases and, in most cases, occur without any identified mutation in a cis-acting regulatory sequence or a trans-acting factor. We investigated whether 11p15 cis-acting sequence variants account for primary DNA methylation defects in patients with SRS and BWS with loss of DNA methylation at ICR1 and ICR2, respectively. We identified a 4.5 kb haplotype that, upon maternal transmission, is associated with a risk of ICR2 loss of DNA methylation in patients with BWS. This novel region is located within the second intron of the KCNQ1 gene, 170 kb upstream of the ICR2 imprinting centre and encompasses two CTCF binding sites. We showed that, within the 4.5 kb region, two SNPs (rs11823023 and rs179436) affect CTCF occupancy at DNA motifs flanking the CTC...

This study focused on the synthesis of La2Zr2O7 powders by soft chemistry (citrate, coprecipitation, and sol–gel methods), and the effects of the solvent and the nature of the precursors used on the powder properties were investigated. The nature of the counter-cation influenced the structural phase of the compound. A low polarizable counter-cation (chloride) permitted the elaboration of a pyrochlore structure within a larger range of parameters compared with highly polarizable counter-cations (nitrate and acetate). Moreover, the nature of the solvent, and specifically the strength of the interactions within it, had an impact on the particle size. Specifically, the use of water, which is a solvent with strong interactions, led to a smaller particle size than the use of ethanol, which has weaker interactions. Based on these results, the crystalline phase of the powders can be predicted as a function of the precursor and the solvent used for the different synthesis routes, and the particle size can be used to evaluate the reactivity of the powders.

Lanthanum and zirconium precursors were studied to understand their influence on lanthanum zirconate (La2Zr2O7) synthesis by SPPS. Thermal analysis revealed that the nature of the precursor and the solvent affected mixture decomposition by changing the decomposition temperature. The surface tensions of precursor solutions in various media were investigated and revealed the influence of the nature of the counter-cation. Different solutions of precursor mixtures were used to obtain La2Zr2O7 splats on metallic substrates. A decrease in solution surface tension led to an increase in splat size. Coating mechanisms by SPPS are governed by the nature of the precursors and solvents.

The study was based on experimental tests such as the sorption desorption isotherms, the water vapor permeability tests on the different materials and the hydric test on a real size wall. The obtained results show the good properties of several materials, particularly in the storage of humidity. The different solicitations applied on the wall allowed to appreciate the ability of a earth brick wall to regulate humidity inside a house.
