The article work was on comparative study of social media (networking) usage by undergraduates in... more The article work was on comparative study of social media (networking) usage by undergraduates in two selected tertiary institutions of Nigeria. Social media have affected communication between people in educational community positively since the pass two decades. Now, life is made easy by this media for development in the education community, social life, and political areas. Descriptive survey design was used. The instruments for collection of data were questionnaire and interview methods. The questionnaire was distributed to students that are inside the cybercafé and library at the Madonna University, Okija campus and also College of Education Library Agbor. Twenty-five(25) each were distributed randomly to undergraduates with help of one workers in each schools. Capture sample technique was adopted by the researchers when distributing the instrument. Findings showed that undergraduates in Madonna University, Okija and College of Education use social media for assignment and research work sometimes. Another findings indicated that Facebook 40(31.25%) WhatsApp 20(41.66%) and UC browser 8(16.66%) are the major social media(networking) often used by them. The researchers found out also that the negative effects of social media include: insomnia, loss of appetite in eating, laziness, addiction to social media, times spend; prone to open dating sites, it encourages online scam. The researchers proffer some solutions in this study.

The study discussed meaning of audiovisual resources, types of audiovisual available in the two institutions used. Survey method was adopted and instruments were observation checklist and oral interview. The population of the study are all registered students in the library. Findings showed that students are not allowed to use audiovisual resources most of the times and management of the both institutions have not done much in audiovisual department. Based on the findings the researchers proffer some solutions to both institutions and others in Nigeria.

The research was conducted due to high rate of illiteracy levels of students in using ICTs facilities in Madonna University, Okija campus. Finding shows that many of students learned how to use computer and other ICT facilities from home, because the school management is against any social activities with the Internet. Another findings show that ICT facilities can help students to do assignment, research, meet friends, and involves other social activities in academic environment or community. But they are deprived. This study investigates the Public Relation Skills of University Librarians in SouthEast geo-poli... more This study investigates the Public Relation Skills of University Librarians in SouthEast geo-political zone of Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study. Questionnaire with 19 items and interviews method were used for the study. Descriptive survey design was used. The population sample constitutes (13) Federal and State Universities with one hundred and seventy-four librarians and library officers in University Libraries SouthEast geopolitical zone-Nigeria. Sample used are five (5) University Librarians and thirty-seven (37) practising librarians, all totally 42. Data were collected, tabulated and analyzed using simple percentage method. The major findings of the study show that the public relation skills of university librarians are poor and this effects the overall library administration. The major recommendation is that the University should as a management matter of urgencies organize in-service-training on public relation skills for university librarian and library schools to include in their curriculum public relation courses in order to strengthen the leadership quality of future librarians.

Specific purposes include determining the electronic reference available for reference librarians to render effective and efficient services to users, types of reference materials in use in academic libraries in Nigeria and find out problems that hinder effective reference and information services. The work is limited to four academic libraries in Anambra State namely Nnamdi Azikiwe University-Awka, Anambra State University-Uli, Federal Polytechnic-Oko, And Madonna University-Okija-Anambra State. Relevant literatures were reviewed. The population of the study is fifty users, each from institution. A survey method was used. Questionnaire, interview, observation and checklist are instruments used for gathering information. Findings show that students do not make proper use of reference services and sources due to stocked obsolete materials and inexperienced staff in this section. Recommendations include making available enough fund, trained staff, user education programme for students and the provision of e-library for use by students.

This multidisciplinary attribute is party, responsible for the claims to its ownership by various professional groups. Notwithstanding the foregoing, there is no gainsaying the fact that the Library and Information Practitioners (LIP) are major players in KM. This desk research clarifies the major roles of the Library and Information Science (LIS) professional in KM and highlights some of the emerging changes which its introduction has brought on job titles in Librarianship. The paper also identifies the aspects of the competencies expected of the LIS professionals and pinpoints some of the challenges which must be overcome to sustain the relevance of the LIS professional in the emergent KM era. Practical recommendations were advanced to enable the LIS professional overcome the challenges associated with KM.

Descriptive survey research design method was adopted in this study. A total population of 552 respondents covering only final year students of the Library and Information Science Department of library schools in South-East was used for this study, to which 112 were randomly selected. Data was collected by means of a questionnaire and handbook for undergraduate programmes from 2012 to 2019 in each university where Library and Information Science is offered. Findings showed that information networking, software package, and library automation are taught by ESUT, IMSU, NAU, and ABSU only. While literature searching skills is not taught by any of the universities understudied, Introduction to ICT & Internet in Library and information services courses are taught by ESUT, IMSU and NAU.
