A designed approach to urban development across spatial scales offers the opportunity to integrate diverse fields to create a strong multidisciplinary knowledge base and avoid fragmented planning approaches. This paper proposes a process-based methodological framework for climate resilient urban design-integrating analysis of climate impact with concerns of local communities. A combined focus on climate impact and co-benefits enables a design process with the ability to promote adaptation and mitigation while also addressing diverse urban challenges and responding to local needs and priorities. The proposed methodological framework is applied in the context of the climate resilient urban redevelopment of the Porte de Montreuil district in Paris, France. The results show that the Porte de Montreuil ar...

Cities have been revealed to be increasingly unsuited to the changing climate and vulnerable to it due to their settlement patterns, constructive practices and living habits. Scientifically addressing the issue of climate-proof design requires the development of knowledge models and processes capable of managing the complexity of information needed to guide the transformation of the built environment. In this paper, a model for assessing climate resilience scenarios for the heatwave phenomenon is proposed by implementing a database of technical climate-proof solutions for climate adaptation and mitigation aimed at increasing the indoor comfort and reducing the CO2 emissions of buildings. The model is implemented through a GIS-based framework and was tested on the city of Naples (Italy), measuring the reduction in th...

Public spaces are a key system for testing the most effective strategies for reducing climate impacts through approaches that use computational design tools in climate adaptation actions. The paper presents the results of the Athenaeum Research Project funded for 2017-2019 by Federico II University entitled SIMMCITIES_NA, Scenario Impact Modelling Methodology for a Climate change-Induced hazards Tool for Integrated End-users Strategic planning and design - Napoli.

Contemporary pluralism and multiculturalism foster a shift in the interest of design debate towards a convergence of knowledge and expertise with different points of view. Technological culture of design provides its own contribution interpreting the project as a moment of coordination between diversified and complex inputs within the building process at a time when the development in the field of collaborative digital systems opens up to new directions for research in architecture and renewed conditions of heteronomy in the project.

A journey that in reality constitutes a narrative artifice of Carlo Piano to strike up a dialogue with his father and retrace together the stories that lie behind his most important projects. Images of the port, the water and the light re ected on the sea recur in the story, elements skilfully evoked in Renzo Piano’s architecture: the «Beaubourg looks like a ship, out of scale and in dry. The Whitney a vessel oating above Manhattan, the Shard the mainmast of the clippers that galloped from the Indies to the ames».

Still, knowledge and methods of architectural integration are not fully developed, especially in Italy. The present paper reports the results of a research activity that, systematising the main criteria and indicators for assessing the integrability of BIPVs in architecture, has led to the development of BIPV Product and Case Study Catalogues that define an up-to-date state of the art on aspects of design and technological innovation using BIPV systems and components. Catalogues have been created with the objective of contributing to the growth of knowledge on the most up-to-date methods of design by implementing a ‘technology transfer’ from goo...
