The role of dynamic-mechanical and dielectric spectroscopy in the process monitoring and environm... more The role of dynamic-mechanical and dielectric spectroscopy in the process monitoring and environmental resistance control of thermoplastic and thermoset polymeric matrices for composites has been analysed. Morphological modification occurring in poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) during crystallization, the chemorheological behaviour of an unsaturated thermosetting polyester and the hygrothermal stability of epoxy and polyurethane based composites has been investigated. An Avrami approach has been adopted in order to interpret the dual mode cold crystallization of the amorphous PEEK based on dielectric, differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic-mechanical analyses. The correlation between dielectric measurements, viscosity and degree of cure during the polymerization of a thermoset is discussed. Finally, the hygrothermal stability of epoxy and polyurethane based composites is analysed in terms of dielectric modifications.

Selective cold crystallizations in the supercooled liquid metal metastable state at different tem... more Selective cold crystallizations in the supercooled liquid metal metastable state at different temperatures above the Glass Transition of the Zr 44-Ti 11-Cu 10-Ni 10-Be 25 metal glass Alloy have been theoretically related to melt rheological modifications. Crystallization behaviour involving high mobility Be, Cu and Ni atoms, which results in multiple peaks exotherm in isothermal DSC annealings, has been observed in bulk metal glassy supercooled liquids. Experimentally measured increases of the temperature needed to induce the glassy metal relaxation (glass transition) in selectively crystallized samples have been experimentally determined. DSC dynamic investigation indicated that three atomic elements present in the metastable liquid were involved in recrystallization process below 450-470°C. Isothermal annealing in the range of temperatures between 400° and 450°C has been chosen for further investigation on thermal events kinetics occurring in the super-cooled liquid.
