Although education drives the social capital, the social capital is crucial for making education systems more adjust and efficient. Nurturing networks, cooperation, and active involvement gives more synergy and provide more and better educational options, more accessibility, more accountability and responsability. These features are also the main drivers of the social cohesion and social benefits. The social cohesion is however, a huge underutilized area that needs more attention from the policy level and from the practitioners level. The paper analyses the social capital as the hidden resource that could contribute to the overall efficiency of the education system.

Research paper thumbnail of Combining PCA analysis and neural networks in modelling entrepreneurial intentions of students

Croatian Operational Research Review, 2013

Despite increased interest in the entrepreneurial intentions and career choices of young adults, ... more Despite increased interest in the entrepreneurial intentions and career choices of young adults, reliable prediction models are yet to be developed. Two nonparametric methods were used in this paper to model entrepreneurial intentions: principal component analysis (PCA) and artificial neural networks (ANNs). PCA was used to perform feature extraction in the first stage of modelling, while artificial neural networks were used to classify students according to their entrepreneurial intentions in the second stage. Four modelling strategies were tested in order to find the most efficient model. Dataset was collected in an international survey on entrepreneurship self-efficacy and identity. Variables describe students' demographics, education, attitudes, social and cultural norms, self-efficacy and other characteristics. The research reveals benefits from the combination of the PCA and ANNs in modeling entrepreneurial intentions, and provides some ideas for further research.

The aim is to find out which of the machine learning methods is more efficient in modelling high-dimensional data in the sense of the average classification rate obtained in a 10-fold cross-validation procedure. In addition, sensitivity and specificity is also observed. The results show that the accuracy of artificial neural networks is significantly higher than the accuracy of k-nearest neighbour, but the difference among other methods is not statistically significant.

Posebna pozornost posvecena je razvoju kontingencijskih teorija vođenja zbog njihove aplikativnosti i iskoristivosti u svakidasnjoj poslovnoj praksi. Rad sistematizira teorijske (nejasno razgranicenje i metrika), te istraživacke izazove (subjektivna percepcija, nedostatak konzistentnih instrumenata). Rad je preliminarna analiza cimbenika o kojima treba voditi racuna u vođenju.

Four distinct clusters were identified by conducting a cluster analysis of data collected from an online survey of young people in Croatia in 2022, revealing both consistent and inconsistent patterns of LCB. The study highlights the complexity of factors influencing LCB and utilizes a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis to identify specific configurations of psychological variables that contribute to high and not-high levels of LCB within each cluster. The results validate the significance of established psychological determinants in explaining variations in low-carbon intentions and behaviors among young people, challenging the assumption of intention as the single best determinant of LCB and underscoring the presence of multiple causal complexities and equifinalities. Furthermore, the stud...

Research paper thumbnail of Profiling the necessity and opportunity entrepreneurs in Croatia: A logistic regression analysis

The aim of the paper is to find out if there is a significant difference between the opportunity ... more The aim of the paper is to find out if there is a significant difference between the opportunity and necessity entrepreneurs in Croatia. The logistic regression analysis was used to test the relationship between entrepreneurial activities motivated by opportunity or necessity and the set of demographic, psychographic and perceptual (socio-cultural, growth aspirational and industry/organizational) variables. The research findings indicate that almost the same factors explain entrepreneurial activity, whereas their direction of influence differs depending on entrepreneurial motivation. Variables reflecting innovation potential and aspirations of entrepreneurs to entrepreneurial venture growth turned to be statistically insignificant. The policy implications of these findings are briefly discussed in this paper as well.
