Il contributo intende proporre alcuni brevi riflessioni sulla possibilità di indagare il testo di... more Il contributo intende proporre alcuni brevi riflessioni sulla possibilità di indagare il testo di Livio dalla prospettiva dello storico dell’arte, in linea con un importante filone di ricerca, da tempo maturato dalle autrici, che studia il repertorio figurativo anche attraverso la documentazione letteraria (Tale approccio alle fonti classiche è già stato adottato ne: Le Immagini di Filostrato Minore e nel Progetto MArS. Mito Arte e Società nelle Metamorfosi di Ovidio).
Se, infatti, l’opera di Livio ha dimostrato di rivestire crescente importanza nel campo degli studi archeologici, spesso alla luce della verifica archeologica della fonte letteraria, l’analisi delle possibili suggestioni iconografiche offerte da Livio allo storico dell’arte costituisce un aspetto decisamente meno noto all’interno dell’opera dello storico patavino, tenuto conto di quelle che sono le finalità della sua produzione letteraria.
Tuttavia un qualche margine di intervento per lo storico dell’arte potrebbe aprirsi in particolare nei contesti in cui si fa riferimento ai bottini di guerra, passi che ci sembra meritino una qualche attenzione, nel tentativo di recuperare echi sia di un patrimonio figurativo antico per noi perduto sia criteri dei selezione tipologica di manufatti che rispecchiano il gusto della società coeva .
The Winter school “The golden legacy. Seven millennia of technological growth and social complexi... more The Winter school “The golden legacy. Seven millennia of technological growth and social complexity” will gather at Padua a pool of leading international experts on gold technologies in the ancient world, to teach an intensive one-week course. The school, based on the close interaction of university students, academics and professionals of gold studies and the jewelry sector will touch a selection of crucial topics, crossing seven millennia of Eurasian history and stimulating the interdisciplinary discussion, in an informal university environment.
The classes, in English, will introduce the basis of ancient gold studies, alternating general lectures, to the presentation of important archaeological discoveries and the discussion of recent research projects, distinguished by an advanced scientific approach. The course will be completed by two excursions, at Vicenza and Brescia, to experience the direct observation of archaeological gold and gilded materials.
On Tuesday 26th we will be guested by the gold trade fair Vicenzaoro, to meet artisans jewelers and to visit the local Museum of Jewelry.
On Thursday 28th, we will be at Brescia, visiting the collections of the Museum of S. Giulia, a UNESCO site with important examples of Roman gilded bronzes and unique pieces of Lombard jewelry.

The marble finds relative to statuary, architectural features and inscriptions that were unearthe... more The marble finds relative to statuary, architectural features and inscriptions that were unearthed during the archaeological investigation of the nymphaeum in the Roman town of Aeclanum (Province of Avellino, Campania-Italy), offered an opportunity to undertake an archaeometric study, in order to determine their constituent marble species and the sites where they were quarried, and so to be able, in addition, to delineate the socio-economic dynamics closely linked to the circulation and supply of marble to centres in the hinterland of Campania in Roman times. The techniques used in the study included minero-petrographic (OM on thin section and XRD on powders) and isotopic analyses (SIRA, on powders).
