It is now easier to make payments on our mobile phones but one major hindrance lies in transaction security. The objective of this paper is to develop a secure transaction protocol for an android based mobile payment system using quick response code technology and a hybrid cryptographic scheme. To achieve a better security in the system, we implemented symmetric, asymmetric cryptography alongside hashing and message authentication codes simultaneously in the system protocol. The results obtained depict a secure mobile payment system which makes use of dual authentication mechanism by two distinct entities

to the increase in the range of services a smart phone can provide which includes the ability to be used in the exchange of financial
value. Quick Response (QR) code technology can be regarded as a key technology in the future of mobile payments. The goal of this
paper is to develop a model of mobile payment solution using QR code as a communication link between the two parties engaging
in a transaction and also for encryption of transaction details. The study resulted in a new android mobile wallet application which
was developed using the object oriented analysis and design methodology. Our experimental results show that the new system has
better security using dual authentication employed by different entities, does not require sharing of personal details, eliminates the
need for agents in the payment ecosystem and satisfies the universal property

Mobile devices are the most promising way to reach the masses and to create stickiness among customers, due to their ability to provide services anytime, anywhere, with high rate of penetration and potential to grow. Going by the Nigerian statistics, only 30% of Nigerians have bank accounts and over 70% who possess mobile phones. As of 2009, 68% of the world's population had mobile cellular subscriptions (ITU, 2009). The growth in mobile telecommunications services is expanding the reach of financial services across wireless networks in the less developed countries, creating the potential for significant growth in mobile commerce and financial inclusion.
