Parables have been an inevitable genre used for preaching wisdom. I have purposefully chosen this book for analysis as it deals with the parables from different world religions. One of the aims of literary writing is to reflect upon life in general. Parables are the stories that reflect upon life and provide us with a path to live accordingly. Similarly, proverbs in the parables add to the wisdom extended by the stories. Hence, I have tried to uncover the wisdom in the parables. To do so, I have followed specific steps. I have identified the proverbs in the parables and then described the context. It is necessary to indicate the context of the proverbs to interpret them appropriately. I have divided the proverbs into different chunks to understand them. Then, I correlated them with various aspects like mythological, cultural, traditional, environmental, or religious. Finally, what these proverbs imply through the parables is interpreted to arrive at a universally applicable wisdom.

I have collected proverbs in the book Parables of Kierkegaard edited by Thomas C. Oden. Parables are unique from other types of short stories as they are told by the person practicing religious duties. Therefore, it is essential to study the proverbs to interpret the wisdom. It is crucial to describe the context in which the proverbs are used; hence, I have explored the contexts of the proverbs. The contextualization gives us an idea of whether the proverbs relate to mythological, cultural, traditional, environmental, or religious aspects. It is essential to look at these contexts to study wisdom derived from them. Thus, I have tried to explore the wisdom that proverbs convey through the parables. Kierkegaard starts the parables with questions and the parables include proverbs stating the moral advice to the people either by a learned person or a philosopher. The wisdom mentioned in the parables gives a universal moral message to the general public so that they become wise.

Wiltse, and Proverb Stories by Louisa M. Alcott. It is an attempt to understand the proverbs deeply rooted in other cultures. The stories are set in different contexts and cultures hence, they might use different proverbial functions. The contexts, the culture, and the elements related to natural, social, and traditional aspects vary from one culture to another. The intentions, implications of actions, and traditional beliefs differ. Therefore, it becomes difficult to understand the proverbs used in other societies. I have tried to understand and interpret the proverbs in the best possible way using the context provided by the story. The analysis hopefully provides a better understanding of the proverbs used in these short stories.

Various emotions, like happiness, sorrow, empathy, anxiety, fear, anger, excitement, etc., are aroused as a result of the effects of literary works. The arousal of these emotions proves that the writer of the work is successful in achieving his or her motive. It may be intentional or unintentional, but such emotional effects make literary works memorable for their affective characteristics. The present research paper looks at Edgar Allen Poe's short stories, The Masque of the Red Death and The Fall of the House of Usher, as gothic tales. It studies the pieces of evidence from the stories that create a gothic effect through the portrayal of the events and settings. The use of ghastly elements, gothic settings, implausible revelations, mysterious events, and horrific language adds gothic features to these two stories, proving that they are excellent examples of gothic literature.

It is a general observation that coincidence is common in real-life situations and literary works. Literary works touch upon many aspects of human life, from daily individual routines to large socio-political incidences. One such aspect is people's behavioural differences towards others. The behavioural discrepancy can be evident from the treatment given by a particular character to other characters. This difference has been studied from socio-political aspects as social exclusion and inclusion. The present paper studies the short story Cinderella from the point of view of social exclusion and ponders upon the motives in the behaviour of Cinderella's stepmother and sisters towards her. Cinderella's social inclusion by different means is also pointed out. The paper applies interpretative and analytical methods to examine Cinderella's social exclusion and inclusion. It is evident that on the one hand, Cinderella was socially estranged by her stepmother and sisters and accepted by the prince along with fairy creatures on the other hand.

While acquiring language, we unintentionally construct the world around us in our mind by the inputs of language. Proverbs, as part of language input also create the world of their own around themselves whenever they are used. Utterances are the source points from which hearer of the utterances tries to construct intended meaning of these utterances and enable them to visualize an image to understand them. It is very interesting to know how proverbs build mental, social and physical scenes in the minds of people involved in communication situation. The present paper studies the proverbs used in Vijay Tendulkar's play Silence! The Court is in Session from Jef Verschueren's model of contextual correlates to find out how mental, social and physical contexts are built through these proverbs.

The term absurd suggests violation of logical form, character and dialogues. Various studies have pointed out the absurdity in action, plot, characters and dialogues in the core absurdist plays. The present paper attempts to point out element of absurdity in Vijay Tendulkar’s Silence! The Court is in Session and scrutinizes the impact of these absurd elements on the situations. As it is assumed that absurdism indicates lack of logic, in the play Silence! The Court is in Session we can find the same unreasonable verbal and nonverbal behaviour exhibited by the characters which clearly point out the existence of absurd element in the play. On the whole, some of these dialogues and actions seem illogical but have their own significance in the play. Therefore, the research paper attempts to locate and examine absurd elements present in this play and the impact these elements have on the dramatic situations.
