The present book, written by thirty authors and directed by Prof. Ibáñez, one of the Consorcio Red Alastria blockchain community cofounders, shows how this pioneer worldwide public-permissioned national ecosystem, Alastria, is to be governed and organized. The different sections of this collective work analyze the mission and vision of Alastria from a multidisciplinary viewpoint encompassing the technological, economic and legal perspectives of its mission and vision. This collective task also encompasses key issues concerning self-sovereign digital identity, decentralized applications, smart contracts and other legal issues related with the creation, expansion and strategic anchorage of the aforementioned ecosystemic community, unique in Europe and in the world, showing the way for other permiss...

Design/methodology/approach: The paper is conceptual. It presents a poem written by Thomas Moore on the sense of humor. From this poem the author derives the virtues important in generating an individual sense of humor that together with a workplace that facilitates the use of humor, generates a “happy company” that achieves positive organizational outcomes. The paper also presents a definition of virtues and the analysis of their implications in business life in general. Findings: A model of management based on virtues and a sense of humor is proposed. Research limitations: The lack of empirical data that can validate the model. Practical Implications: Considering the emphasis placed on virtues, the model could have some practical implications in the fields of recruitment, promotion, leadership and org...

This could be in part due to the fact of the temporary status of their roles amplifying a sort of conflict of identity in that they seek to maintain an academic identity, whilst being under pressure to take a long–term strategy. Another challenging element in today’s world is the high competitive and changing environment that requires sometimes dramatic and long-term decisions in order to guarantee the survival of the academic institution. The current period presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities to universities and there is no doubt that the quality of leadership in the sector is crucial to developing the necessary entrepreneurialism and resilience required (Wooldridge, 2011). Drawing from the author’s own experience of working more than 20 years in developing leaders and adding the experience as professor of strategic management and manager in the higher education sector, the purpose of this article is to present a focused strategy summarized in six practical points that can help leaders of colleges and universities reinvent their industry and survive in the long term. Purpose: The purpose of this article is to analyze the challenges and opportunities to universities and thus to propose some practical solutions. Design/methodology/approach: The article is based on concepts and on the own experience of the author as manager in the higher education sector. Findings: A list of practical solution to modern challenges is proposed. Research limitations: The lack of empirical data that can validate the model. Practical Implications: Considering the emphasis placed on challenges and opportunities, the model can have some practical implications in the management of universities. Originality/value: The article attempts to present a complete list of challenges and opportunities universities are facing. The list can provide a basis for further analysis from universities’ managers.

But, not content with a happy future at the cost of a miserable life, we want to be happy at every moment of our life. This permanent happiness, however, seems very difficult to achieve, if not impossible, for life is always providing us with situations that are characterised by their "contrariness", i.e., they are opposed to our likes, our interests and our calmness. If we feel happy at any moment in time, a reason for disappointment soon appears, or some circumstance that disrupts our wellbeing. It seems that happiness cannot be permanent, but rather it is composed of small moments, details experienced in daily life, and perhaps its main characteristic is futility, its ability to appear and disappear constantly throughout our lives. What does it consist of, this happiness that we all pursue? Defining the concept is hard work. It is surely one of the most controversial and complicated definitions. As Kashdan, Biswas-Diener and King (2008) indicate, this is a "central concern" for humanity. The authors stress that several definitions can be found in philosophy, in religion, in cultural and political beliefs and values, and of course in psychology. However, they warn that psychologists synthesise ideas from other disciplines, although they are the only ones who provide a single united contribution to the concept of happiness and well-being. In fact, some authors (Diener, 1984) prefer to use a more manageable concept from a psychological perspective and speak of subjective wellbeing, which consists of three elements: a high number of personal satisfactions, a high number of positive feelings, and a low number of negative feelings. According to García Martín (2002), "There are many authors who have tried to define happiness or well

As a consequence, organisations should bear this fact in mind and adapt their corporate strategies to the new market demands. Online social networks offer customers the possibility to bring attention to issues they believe need to be addresses by organisations. Added to this, e-reputation plays a pivotal role in determining a company's competitive advantage. This paper studies the role of e-communications in an organisation's strategy and how analytics and modelling techniques are used to take advantage of the digital media content. It discusses the historical reputational challenged experienced by banks and how can the current fintech industry take advantage of past errors. Finally, an overview of effective mechanisms to improve e-reputation is presented.

The importance of such an article comes at a time when ethical practices or lack thereof seems to be increasingly prevalent in many organizations' execution of their business practices. These organizations quite often have an ethics statement outlining required behavior of employees and tout their commitment to employees, society, and the customer, yet we continue to see major infractions of these codes of ethics. All this comes at a high financial cost to organizations. In order to avoid such fines, and damage to brand equity, we propose ethical components which must permeate the organization to ensure appropriate behavior which neither breaks legal requirements, disengages the employee, or alienates the customer.
