at the restoration of the exterior fronts of the Donn’Anna Palace in Naples.
The view of the famous residence, surrounded on three sides by the sea, has been
one of the iconic images of Naples since the 17th century. The contribution illustrates
the restoration of the eastern elevation (facing Mergellina), based on new documentary
investigations, material survey and stratigraphic examination of the walls.
Finally, it examines the methodological issues raised by the decision to preserve
nineteenth- and twentieth-century building phases that the project initially planned
to remove.
The paper illustrates the technological solutions and materials (chemically and physically
compatible with the existing ones) used for the conservation interventions
and to ensure the preservation of the long-storied ruin image of the residential building,
which is characterized by particularly difficult environmental conditions.
The interventions, with a decidedly conservative orientation, were guided by the
stratigraphic reading of the elevations: a novel element in the operational practice
on exposed tuff masonry characterized by different chronological phases.

This paper analyzes an acoustic correction system made of cork sheets mounted at an opportune distance from the walls inside a room. The cork sheets have a thickness equal to 1.5 mm. The sound absorption coefficients of the cork sheets were initially evaluated by mounting samples inside an impedance tube, then creating a back cavity at a suitable distance from a rigid wall. The distances considered were: 3, 5, 10 and 15 cm. A room used as an office with a volume of about 90 m3 and plastered walls was considered as a case-study. In this type of environment, suitable acoustic comfort conditions are required. The acoustic characteristics were analyzed through a virtual model with an architectural acoustics software in an empty room and then with the introduction of sound-absorbing cork sheets. Measurements of the acoustic characteristics of the empty room were taken and subsequently with the walls lined with cork panels mounted at a distance of 3.0 cm from the rigid rear wall. A configuration was analyzed, in line with what was carried out in the numerical model, covering a surface of 5m2 of the room. The results of the numerical simulations as well as the experimental measurements are discussed.

The earthquake occurred in 1732 determined the collapse of the entire vaults and roof, left in ruins for different centuries. Restoration works started at the end of the 20th century have been commissioned by the local authority to adapt the conditions of the architecture to classical music besides the sacred functions. This paper deals with the acoustic assessment of the St Spirit's church after the construction of a double-slope roof and the realization of vaults by employing exposed canes. Acoustic measurements undertaken inside the church represent the basis to determine a new acoustic design focused on the integration of temporary music venues. As such, a variety of solutions related to finish materials and additional acoustic panels have herein proposed to achieve optimal values for live musical concerts.

Results showed that the use of microwaves does not lead to alterations in the structure of the wood, but does bring about variations in its hygroscopicity and permeability.

The paper makes use of a remarkable corpus of unpublished graphs, found in different European archives, the reconsideration of those already known and of new documents (mainly of the eighteenth-century procurement) to trace, in one with a systematic analysis stratigraphy of the elevated, to identify the chronologies of the imposing surviving structures, proposing significant advancements of knowledge on the subject. This paper also reconsiders the relationship between the project experiments carried out in Italy during the first half of the sixteenth century and those conducted in the new world fo...

In particular the case study of the lateral cross vaults of the Cathedral of the old town of Caserta is analyzed. The scope of the paper is not to study in detail and quantitatively any particular vault, rather we give a compressive equilibrium solution (compatible with the unilateral material assumption) for the general case of cross vaults, constructed on arches of unequal rise, and loaded by a uniform load. For the purpose of the structural analysis, the vault is modelled as a thin shell made of Rigid No-Tension material. For the purpose of the structural analysis, the vault is modelled as a thin shell made of Rigid No-Tension material. The webs of the vault that we consider, are supported on two crossing ribs. To obtain the axial force inside the ribs, equilibrated and singular stress fields (that is stress fields concentrated on curves and balanced with the loads) are constructed. An estimate of the thrust forces transmitted by the vault to the peripheral arches and walls is also obtained, so that the stability of these structures can be checked.

Results showed that the use of microwaves does not lead to alterations in the structure of the wood but does bring about variations in its hygroscopicity and permeability.
