Abstract Given the need to propose educational models consistent with individual student differences, this res...

This review article presents an analysis which tries to explain the processes leading to this construction: its genesis, nature, mechanisms and the importance of experience in culturally defined contexts in their training. Finally, it presents a practical view of what mathematics instruction should be in order to bring the processes and theoretical research to the reality of the classroom and students.

The goal of which was to determine the level of Math competence of preschool age children. The aim of the study is to provide elements to develop so that we might improve competence within this education level. This is a cross-sectional study and the sample consisted of 116 children in grade transition in public and private schools from Santa Martha District. The instrument used was “Test of Early Math Ability”, designed by Ginsburg y Baroody, in its Spanish adaptation. The results conclude that the Math competence has developed to a medium level in the searched sample. However, it finds differences in relation to the type of school.

high education levels. This research shows the design, application and evaluation of a program
which tries to strength students skills when writing different kinds of essays, and it is
also based on theories from the Functional Systemic Linguistics. As a fundamental of the
program, it was taken the book Palabra abierta by Colombi, Pellettiere and Rodriguez (2001),
who use language integrating elements, such as genre, register (field, tenor and way), situation
context and culture context. Theoretical fundamentals are mainly based in Halliday, Hassan,
Martin and Rose. This on-going project is being developed with a high school-student population
from two public institutions, and students from the first semesters in Accounting and
Psychology in Universidad Simon Bolivar, Barranquilla, Colombia. Partial results reflect a
positive transformation, since the diagnosis showed students with problems for composing
academic texts such as essays, and through this process, have achieved skills in written communication
efficiently.

in the Magdalena region. The population was represented by 101 children, to whom the
Basic Mathematics Competency Test, Item 3, in its Spanish version, was administered. Quantitative
methodology was used, from an empirical and analytical approach and a cross-sectional
design was implemented. The results indicate that 31% of children evaluated obtained
a Mathematics Competency Global Index average, with 57% for descriptors: below average
and 22% above average. The private institutions placed a higher percentage of students above
average. The sex and age variable does not provide significant differences

The evaluation was conducted to 62 children (the entire population of the study). This was based, in one hand, on the maturity model in the application of ABC Filho L. Test, which assesses the maturity by means of 8 subtests that reference the necessary components for the acquisition of reading and writing. On the other hand, and from a constructivist perspective, it was appreciated the approach and recognition that children show while they face literacy through the application of a technique called "Hypothesis Testing" based on Teberosky and Ferreiro's theoretical assumptions. The results indicate that half of the study population is at a medium level of literacy maturity and, between the third and fourth level of alphabetic writing system acquisition. In these results, children of institutions of middle and high socio-economic status predominated (45%).
