By following the social media presence and actions of three Europeans, I explore the current jurisprudence in connection with the Kurdish struggle. Proceeding from an anal- ysis of the three possible cases stemming from real case studies, I carry out a theoretical exercise of possible prosecution outcomes if national author- ities were to bring their “careers” to the attention of national courts. Since the outburst of the anti- ISIS conflict in the majority-Kurdish areas of Iraq and Syria in 2014, foreign pro-Kurdish fighters’ self-representation on their personal social media
accounts has had an astonishing impact on the por- trayal and perception of the conflict in Western countries. Therefore, the use of social media by the fighters proves to be a source of not only information, but also polarisation – and a primary source for future conflict studies. The use of tech- nology has never been so pervasive as in our times; social media are therefore not only part of our daily lives, but actively contributing to our perception of the world – including conflicts located thousands of kilometres away.

These Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are usually controlled with a smartphone or a tablet. This article therefore analyses which cybersecurity vulnerabilities the use of such devices as Ground Control Stations brings into the picture, by focusing on communication connection, hardware and software vulnerabilities. It then analyses the three most sold operative systems, weighing their pros and cons. Lastly, it takes into consideration the recent purchase (February 2018) by the U.S. Navy of 800 InstantEye Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for infantry squads of the Marine, and analyses whether the choice is a solution to the afore-mentioned vulnerabilities problem.

Small-sized 3 RPAs for photography and videography purposes can now be afforded by an average consumer, as price is akin that of digital cameras with nearly identical specifics 4 . At factory settings, an RPA is equipped with an advanced image-capturing system and presents higher payload capacity, which allows for better stability and manoeuvrability.
