L’an 2018, le 20 Octobre, ont eu lieu les travaux de journée d’étude sur « L’Impact de la Polluti... more L’an 2018, le 20 Octobre, ont eu lieu les travaux de journée d’étude sur « L’Impact de la Pollution des Rivières sur la Santé, l’Environnement et l’Economie. Cas des Rivières de Boulezazene et d’Oued Aguerioune». L’objectif de cette journée d’étude a été de rassembler toutes les parties concernées par le phénomène de la pollution des rivières, à savoir les élus locaux, les responsables des institutions publiques, les enseignants-chercheurs, les associations et les entrepreneurs. Cette rencontre se voulait une occasion pour trouver des solutions adéquates aux problèmes de l’environnement dans la région Est de Bejaia. Elle visait à établir des stratégies efficaces à même de garantir le lancement d’une dynamique économique tout en respectant la santé des habitants et en préservant l’environnement naturel.

Many economic companies are increasingly demanding English language trainings in order to raise t... more Many economic companies are increasingly demanding English language trainings in order to raise the level of English language proficiency of their employees. Human resources departments and training departments in socioeconomic institutions, the first services to be directly linked to this question, are complaining about the limitedness of language proficiency levels of the newly recruited employees, and of the negative impact this has on the achievement of the professional duties assigned to them. Parallel to this, the training institutions, public and private, are confronting various challenges and difficulties, among which the lack of official records about the real English language needs in the workplace and the lack of educational know-how that could enable them to respond to those specific needs. The main objective of this study day (in its first edition) is to describe the current situation of English language teaching to the employees and managers of the socioeconomic institutions and to examine English language use and needs in socio-professional settings.

This includes the description of the nature and of the features of communication; the exploration of foreign language learning difficulties; the analysis of communicative and educational needs of EFL learners; the design and implementation of needs-based language courses, materials and tasks; the suggestion and experimentation of solutions to the raised issues…etc.

Until only recently, one could hardly find a definition or an entry for the term “lexicology” in ... more Until only recently, one could hardly find a definition or an entry for the term “lexicology” in most English linguistics textbooks and language dictionaries (i.e. linguistics textbooks published in the UK, and its definition in medium-sized dictionaries). In fact, this term was of more or less European usage, referring to the subdiscipline of linguistics which is concerned with the study of words. The British scholars rather approached this kind of study in relation to two separate fields: word formation and lexical semantics. For many objective reasons, which will be explained in the end of this lecture, the British researchers are now adapting to the European view of Lexicology as an autonomous discipline. I shall, in the following, provide a brief presentation of the field of lexicology. This includes: the meaning of lexicology, important concepts in lexicology (vocabulary, lexis and lexicon), Classical vs. evolved views of lexicology, lexicology and other levels of linguistics. The lecture concludes with an extended definition of lexicology.
