This study adopts a sensitive approach towards the urban heritage specifically characterized by the presence of water in outdoor spaces. The case study is the old district built around the "Roman basins" of Gafsa's Medina. This investigation highlights the importance of water presence in these historic basins and how much are their ambiences perceived and experienced by the inhabitants, particularly the young people. The outcomes argue that water is a generator of particular urban atmospheres that promote this place's both tangible and intangible heritage. This experiential study of practices relies on in-situ observations and interviews with users.

This latter could be considered as a transposition of Athens Charters recommendations and Modern Movement doctrines with a respectful design attitude to the place climatic specifications. A survey has been conducted among the residents of the neighbourhood El Menzah in Tunis about their living way there with a focus on the ambiances. The first results reveal that the place atmosphere can enhance its reading, and generates, on the one hand, a place attachment to its old inhabitants and an attraction for the new ones, on the other.

Our theoretical reflection aims at establishing the base for a new definition, in the sense that theoretical topology, like geometry, is an effective means to define the form of architectural spatiality based on the notion of ambiences. Topological definitions already developed by several renowned architects allow us to build a better understanding of route and sequence and thereby help the development of our analytical model. This research is focused on the museum, which is a public-facing architectural construction. According to the approach, thirty European museums were examined. The data collected for these museums were statistically analysed. Based, on the ambience discontinuities, the sequential analysis allowed us to create ambient topologies by transforming them into ambient events that are linked to the displacement of the user in connection with ambiance change. We endeavor to develop a micro study to reflect on the interaction between different environmental sources as a means to comprehend the influence on the future spatial-energetic behavior. This study lays the groundwork for a novel approach of defining architectural space based on differences in users’ perceptions and the environment of a given space.

These atmospheres have been profoundly altered due to the different rearrangements that have affected this building. Based on historical evidence and an architectural analysis of the other medersa dating from the same dynasty (Marinid), a restitution of the architectural conformation was first proposed. Then, a restitution of the luminous environment is suggested. The first part of this research is a reading of the architectural conformation relative to the luminous atmosphere including: i) the identification of lighting devices, ii) the various adopted lighting strategies (reflecting, filtering, diffusing), and iii) the sensory luminous effects generated in the different spaces of the medersa. The second part is devoted to the luminous environment quantitative characterization, by means of computer simulation, in the places (the prayer room and the room) where ...

In other words, the sound, itself and similarly to the human body, will be able to generate new spatiality that can be characterized 'topologically'. The museum considered as an architectural work intended for the public, is the object of study of this investigation. A corpus of thirty international museums was subjected to analysis in accordance with the model developed and based on the notions of 'route' and 'sequence'. Using statistical analyzes of the data collected for this corpus. It is to be admitted that the sound enhances the museum route thanks to the continuities and discontinuities with the basic form of the building. It is from this relationship that the sound topologies are born.

We examined two museums located in the same environment but with very distinct stylistic repertoires to explore how stylistic slant might affect this characterization. We first assessed the properties of spatial visibility using space syntax, and then based on this analysis determined the most important isovists presented to visitors, i.e., fields of view, in the two museums. We defined spaces from these, which we evaluated using HDR photos, which were processed by numerous applications and software, and we were able to deduce the spatial-light characteristics in each museum from the resulting pixels. As a result, we were able to deduce the influence of stylistic trends on the selection of configurational and visual typologies of museum ambiences.

It goes beyond quantitative aspects in order to encompass the qualitative ones. The ambiances felt in the various cases of architectural heritage are explored and studied by means of textual information found in novels. The case of Old Algiers house is investigated through the application of the content analysis method to a contemporary Algerian novel. The information extracted from this novel has been identified and quantitatively classified in function of the related ambiance and the spatial component and/or the household item involving in its generation.

The restitution of this ambiantal memory is used to participate in the reconsideration of the urban and architectural heritage of this highly historic space, the Souks, by sonic ambiances. Our ambiantal approach is based on quantitative and qualitative (notion of sound effect) content analysis of the 19thcentury texts.

This study focuses on office employees' behaviour in relation to natural and/or artificial lighting and investigates the relationship between: i) the natural/artifical lighting use, ii) the perceptual views induced/generated by the related internal luminous environment, iii) the impact of the external natural luminous environment on the recourse to natural and/or artifical lighting, iv) the office conformation, v) the internal movable shading devices use, and vi) the users' characteristics. This POE investigates an office building located in the city of Biskra in Algeria, where a clear and sunny sky combined with a hot arid climate prevails. The study results revealed that: i) the office employees perceive daylight somehow differently from the attitude towards it, ii) the windo...
