By examining the significance of specific rituals, particularly those pertaining to rites of passage, the paper sheds light on the socio-cultural dimensions of the festival. The ritual of disguise, a central element of the event, is discussed in relation to its function in fostering social cohesion and identity formation. A regional analysis reveals the diverse manifestations of the festival across Morocco, reflecting the nation's heterogeneous cultural landscape. Utilizing the concept of multidirectional memory, the paper concludes with a comparative exploration of the Sultan of Students festival and the celebration of Nowruz. This comparison illuminates both the shared themes of renewal and transformation, as well as the divergent practices and social contexts that characterize each event. By engaging with these complex cultural phenomena, the paper contributes to a broader understanding of Moroccan cultural heritage and highlights the importance of celebrating diverse cultural expressions in a globalized world.
