This is a consequence of the result that, for a generic d-dimensional nonlinear system, the state can be reconstructed on the basis of the 2d first derivatives of the output

A set of coordinate-free necessary and sufficient conditions for such a transformation to be possible is first proposed, and a more constructive procedure is then presented. No restriction of invertibility of the state transition map is required.

By Theorem 1, P T 1 (t) P2(t) for t 2 [0; T2]. Hence P1(0) P2(0), which leads to a contradiction by the same argument as for the proof of the solution uniqueness in Theorem 3. In this paper, a geometric approach to the synthesis of a residual generator for fault detection ... more In this paper, a geometric approach to the synthesis of a residual generator for fault detection and isolation (FDI) in bilinear systems is considered. A necessary and sufficient condition to solve the so-called fundamental problem of residual generation is obtained. The proposed approach resorts to extensions of the notions of (C, A)-invariant and unobservability subspaces, and it yields a constructive

This paper deals with the observability analysis and the observer synthesis of a class of nonlinear systems. It is shown how concentrations of components for some classes of reactions occurring in a jacketed reactor can be estimated from temperature measurements only. We investigate some reactions of the type X -X' and X+X' 4 X" in the continuous case to exemplify observer utility.

The problem of residual generation for fault detection and isolation (FDI) in state affine system... more The problem of residual generation for fault detection and isolation (FDI) in state affine systems is studied. Sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution are presented, and the connection with the geometric theory of FDI for linear systems is emphasised. Kalman-like time-varying observers are usedfor the synthesis of the residual generators. The theoretical results are illustrated by simulations of diagnosis systems for a chemical reactor and a distillation column.
