Dans cet article, nous présentons des textes écrits durant deux moments différents, pré et post-p... more Dans cet article, nous présentons des textes écrits durant deux moments différents, pré et post-planification car nous avons remarqué que la plupart des d'élèves de 2 ème AS n'arrivent pas à activer leurs connaissances déclaratives de manière efficace pour produire des textes significatifs en langue étrangère. Leurs textes sont souvent courts et manquent de cohérence textuelle en raison de leur bagage linguistique jugé insuffisant. Le but majeur de cette contribution est de voir à quel point l'enseignement/ apprentissage de la planification explicite peut aider les apprenants à mieux gérer leur tâche pour produire des textes plus significatifs, plus clairs, plus compréhensibles et bien structurés.

Dans cette étude, nous tenterons de démontrer les particularités du verbe Arabe en adoptant une p... more Dans cette étude, nous tenterons de démontrer les particularités du verbe Arabe en adoptant une perspective contrastive avec le Français. Notre objectif est de présenter une analyse morphosyntaxique des verbes capable de lever quelques ambiguïtés syntaxiques relatives aux divergences des structures morphosyntaxiques de l'Arabe et du Français, respectivement. Il est à noter que l'une des difficultés de l'analyse des deux langues provienne du fait que les niveaux d'analyse interagissent de façon complexe. La complexité des structures linguistiques à mettre en relief dans un système de traduction traitant deux langues typologiquement distinctes, fait l'objet de notre étude.

The present study revisits the issue of gender positioning within the visual discourse of three A... more The present study revisits the issue of gender positioning within the visual discourse of three Algerian secondary education English textbooks. In order to get an informed view about gender representation in these materials, it was deemed necessary to combine the outcomes of theoretical critical accounts with language teachers´ potential interpretations of gender bias within the textbooks. First, the selected visual corpus was scrutinized for gender bias through critical image analysis. The major aspects, in which gender bias can be embedded, have been addressed within a well-elaborated framework. Second, the perceptions that secondary education EFL teachers have of this issue were surveyed by dint of a self-report questionnaire which was submitted to a conveniently selected sample. The comparative analysis of the results indicate that while the majority of the images display clear signs of bias against females, most teachers hardly view any imbalances between the two genders as far as visual representation is concerned. This mismatch seems arguably related to the fact that gender bias is still considered a peripheral area of interest by the majority of EFL language practitioners.

This paper reflects on a number of implications regarding the correlation between linguistic and ... more This paper reflects on a number of implications regarding the correlation between linguistic and economic variables. It considers economic production as a dynamism necessarily entailing linguistic competencies for employability and entrepreneurial activity. Based on self-reported questionnaire data, the study primarily hinges on a quantitatively-oriented approach. The results obtained demonstrate that proficiency in more than a language proves to be most advantageous, especially socioeconomically , leading to valuable returns to both workforce and multinational. Individuals with more multiple linguistic skills seem to occupy better work positions. For the firm, hiring employees with a variety of language profiles renders profits with a high cost-effectiveness.

The current research aims at elaborating and validating a set of scales to investigate the classr... more The current research aims at elaborating and validating a set of scales to investigate the classroom assessment practices under the competency-based paradigm, implemented by the Algerian Department of Education since 2003. The study sought to probe the levels of teachers' assessment competency and its impact on the student learning quality. It addresses a practical issue often encountered in student assessment: how do teachers perceive and implement assessment in their everyday instruction? A sample of 156 primary school teachers in Algeria was involved and their perceptions were collected using a survey method. This study focused on the main challenges affecting teachers' classroom assessment methods and practices. It strives to establish which assessment strategies are mostly used by teachers in their daily instruction in order to describe how the challenges influenced their classroom assessment practices and thus the learning quality. The data analyses were descriptive. This study revealed that the teachers were skilled enough in traditional assessment methods. In contrast, they showed some weakness in dealing with competency-based assessment methods. Based on these findings, it is suggested that primary school teachers should be informed about the adequate methods and techniques to align with the competency-based assessment approach. Thus, workshops and in-service training programs about the new assessment methods are imperative to promote quality learning.

The interest of the soundscape approach for teaching foreign languages: Learning the phonic compo... more The interest of the soundscape approach for teaching foreign languages: Learning the phonic component of French in the Algerian context This paper proposes to highlight the importance of a phonetic approach that considers languages as essentially sound objects and examines its didactic implications. Lhote tried to demonstrate the effectiveness of such a so-called simplistic approach. The research paper discusses the precepts of this approach in relation to particular situations drawn from an Algerian context. Every time a concept is introduced, it will be followed by an illustration. The results of this research paper revealed that the soundscape approach is a framework built on active listening that is based on triggering, anchoring and identification. The triggering of comprehension occurs when the words are picked up: a contrastive phonetic analysis makes it possible to filter the specific properties of the two coexisting phonic systems and to highlight the differences. Il est communément connu que la morphologie arabe est non concaténative. En ce sens, les formes d... more Il est communément connu que la morphologie arabe est non concaténative. En ce sens, les formes de mots sont composées de morphèmes entrelacés. Elles sont basées sur une racine consonantique qui porte une charge sémantique, un schéma vocalique qui véhicule une fonction syntaxique et une structure squelettique de morphèmes dont la forme canonique révèle un sens particulier pour remplir une fonction grammaticale. Dans ce travail de recherche, nous nous intéressons uniquement à l'accompli et l'inaccompli ainsi qu'à leurs particularités au sein du système morphologique arabe. Une grande attention est portée aux valeurs des deux temps. Ce mécanisme a été abordé dans une perspective comparative où deux langues différentes (arabe et français) sont soumises à l'analyse. Les différences ainsi obtenues serviront de cadre théorique d'une théorie générale de la traduction. Ce travail est une tentative afin de décrire des mécanismes de construction morphologique en arabe. Nous nous sommes concentré principalement sur les valeurs de l'accompli et de l'inaccompli afin de lever l'ambiguïté de certaines équivalences entre l'arabe et le français dans tout acte de traduction. The clarification begins with an etymological investigation into the origin of the two terms.
Another attempt is made to maintain the comparison by introducing different views exposed in the available comparative sources then stating, analyzing definitions that concentrate on the differences, and others that address the analogy of the two notions. The current endeavor concludes by highlighting the major differences between the two components of the current paper while aspiring for completion by other studies
that will develop and extend it to the field of foreign language learning.

Research on the benefits of free voluntary reading in EFL settings has been in the ascendant foll... more Research on the benefits of free voluntary reading in EFL settings has been in the ascendant following the numerous reports documenting the power of reading voluntarily in helping students reach satisfactory levels of target language proficiency, especially writing skills which are widely considered as a source of trouble for many EFL students. From this perspective, our study examines the FVR habits of a group of EFL university students as well as their beliefs concerning the efficiency of reading voluntarily to enhance their writing development. The main results of the study reveal that despite students' inconstant Free Voluntary Reading habits, they hold positive beliefs about its efficiency in enhancing writing development specifically in terms of content enrichment rather than form correctness.

The published works in the journal were more directed to German with a clear orientation towards translation. From 2010 onwards, TRANSLANG becomes multidisciplinary and more languages are present: English, Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian and the work between translation and languages is balanced. In 2020, TRANSLANG is indexed, its staff is characterized by the international dimension which gives the journal more credibility. In 2022, TRANSLANG is updated and specialized in translation studies, as part of the High-Quality Research (HQR) framework. The themes addressed today are particularly related to the reflection on translation as a process, especially the translation of specialized texts (technical, literary, artistic), on the interpreting process (simultaneous, consecutive, community), on the cognitive aspects of translation, history of translation, didactics and pedagogy, translatology, and terminology. The journal publishes original research and survey articles, it aims at promoting international scholarly exchanges among researchers, academics and practitioners to foster intercultural communication by providing insights into local and global languages and cultures. The journal is published twice a year starting from 2010, the first was edited in 2002 one issue a year by University of Oran. The journal accepts original papers, reports and reviews in English, French, German and Spanish. It is published in both print and online versions. The online version is free access and downloadable. The 21 st century knew unexpected increase in the number of linguistically diverse companies, as ... more The 21 st century knew unexpected increase in the number of linguistically diverse companies, as labour mobility creates workforces recruiting from different national backgrounds. Consequently, the necessity to resolve the communicative issues emerged in workplaces that do not share the first language. Empirical research in this field mentions that great number of organisations resort to specific solutions to solve communicative issues in linguistically diverse settings.However ,there must be a specific language management in order to facilitate various working processes.In order to achieve best management ,a survey and an observation were used and an international company is taken as a case study.Results have revealed that this multilingual company subdiary in Algeria find difficulties in overcoming linguistic issues and try to adapt itself .Adopting various methods that help employees and employers would be the efficient way to deal with diversity, supposing that these methods have to be flexible, useful and helpful.

The journal accepts original papers, reports and reviews in English, French, German and Spanish. It is published in both print and online versions. The online version is free access and downloadable. Consequently, the necessity to resolve the communicative issues emerged in workplaces that do not share the first language. Empirical research in this field mentions that great number of organisations resort to specific solutions to solve communicative issues in linguistically diverse settings.However ,there must be a specific language management in order to facilitate various working processes.In order to achieve best management ,a survey and an observation were used and an international company is taken as a case study.Results have revealed that this multilingual company subdiary in Algeria find difficulties in overcoming linguistic issues and try to adapt itself .Adopting various methods that help employees and employers would be the efficient way to deal with diversity, supposing that these methods have to be flexible, useful and helpful.

This research work tries to shed some lights on the socio-pragmatic mechanisms underlying the alt... more This research work tries to shed some lights on the socio-pragmatic mechanisms underlying the alternative use of two codes in the course of a single conversation, namely the passage from Algerian Arabic to French and vice-versa. The main objective is to clarify some controversial theoretical notions to be applied within an Algerian context and to give empirical evidence for initial hypotheses related to the social behaviour of some Algerian bilingual speakers.
The results of the application of theoretical findings from different disciplines (syntax, cognitive psychology and contact linguistics) on data, recorded in different contexts at the University of Oran, are presented and interpreted in the light of Myers-Scotton’s matrix-language models, namely the MLF and its supportive sub-models. The framework adopted in this micro-sociolinguistic study is socio-psycholinguistic. We attempt to explain the connection between the linguistic, social and psychological mechanisms which underlie the process of selection in code-switching and the systemic conversion rules in borrowing.
We have concluded that AA/Fr intra-sentential code-switching is used by our informants as a communicative strategy, a device which signals identity-construction in the case of MSA/AA code-switching and index social relations in other contexts. The bilingual use in mixed-codes is not only structurally determined but rather psycho-linguistically conditioned. In fact, the process of triggering is not structural in nature but a set of social parameters and a number of cognitive operations are manifested in code-choice.
We consider in this work that the context of proliferation is not stable, rather; it is in continuous change with regard to its ultimate constituents. The passage from Algerian Arabic to French or to another code can only be explained in accordance to the co-constructed context in which the bilingual speaker is the responsible of his linguistic acts.

The main target of this research work is mainly to highlight the critical role that learning stra... more The main target of this research work is mainly to highlight the critical role that learning strategies can play in integration and assimilating different French sonorities by Algerian Arab students. To do so, we have appealed to a range of theoretical approaches, mainly contrastive analysis, error analysis and the soundscape approach. Indeed, metacognitive strategies appear to be essential to the success of different tasks relevant to foreign language pronunciation acquisition (discrimination, identification and production) because they are considered to be as orientation strategies facilitating the assimilation and integration of elements constituting the soundscape of such a language.
The parallel established between Arabic and French sound systems indicates significant divergences at the level of segmental structures (consonants and vowels) and suprasegmental structures (rhythm and accent). We have paid special attention to some errors triggered off by a process of regressive and progressive assimilation at work, due to consonantal anticipation characterising Arabic and its dialectal varieties, notably [i]>[é]/[è] et [u]>[i]. The results indicating the phonetic-phonological confusions identified in this study are elicited from perception and production tests focusing mainly upon disyllabic words.
We have also conducted a reflection on pronunciation learning/teaching, highlighting then many factors influencing the acquisition of the French sound system. These parameters are of a sociolinguistic nature (age "critical period" and sex) as well as psychological (attitude and motivation). For this purpose, we have established two questionnaires in order to check the hypotheses postulated in relation to beliefs, cultural representations of the French language, the mental representations of the prosodic component marking Arabic and French as well as learning strategies.
A look at the phonetic/phonological programs designed for Algerian Arab students of first and second years led us to notice a lack of awareness of the systemic divergences distinguishing the sound systems of standard Arabic, dialectal Arabic and French. The phonetic practice proposed in the manual of oral expression intended for first year students indicate also some shortcomings and drawbacks closely related to phonetic progression as well as to an absence of different techniques of phonetic acquisition. This fact led us to discuss and analyse some directive and non-directive approaches making of pronunciation their focus. We have insisted mainly upon constructive repetition, imitation and synesthetic associations in order to raise learners’ consciousness about the need of in-depth treatment of phonetic data assuring thus retention. This awareness emphasising the differences characterising the main sound systems available for Algerian Arab students is based mainly on contractiveness marking standard Arabic, colloquial Arabic and French. So, the appeal to differential pronunciation instruction is necessary and an overlapping between phonetic and oral expression seems prerequisite.
This study is a contribution to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the sound system acquisition of French as a foreign language by Algerian Arab students and the different corrective procedures liable to improve perceptive and productive abilities of these learners.

Les travaux qui y étaient publiés étaient davantage germanophones avec une nette orientation vers la traduction, sous la direction de Djamel Eddine Lachachi. À partir de l'année 2010, Translang devient pluridisciplinaire et plus de langues y sont présentes l'anglais, l'arabe, le français, l'espagnol, le Russe les travaux entre traduction et langues s'équilibrent. En 2015, la direction passe sous la coupe de Ghania Ouahmiche et TRANSLANG dépend de l'Université Oran 2, l'éditrice en Chef oeuvre pour son indexation et ce, à travers de nouvelles orientations, la traductologie est plus présente. En 2020, TRANSLANG est indexée, son staff est caractérisée par la dimension internationale ce qui confère à la revue davantage de crédibilité. En 2022, TRANSLANG se met à jour et se spécialise en traductologie, s'inscrivant dans le cadre de Recherches de hautes Qualités (RHQ). Les thématiques abordées aujourd'hui sont particulièrement en relation avec la réflexion sur le processus de traduction notamment la traduction de textes spécialisés (techniques, littéraires, artistiques), sur le processus d'interprétation (simultanée, consécutive, communautaire), sur les aspects cognitifs de la traduction, histoire de la traduction, didactique et pédagogie, traductique, terminotique, etc. La qualité des manuscrits ne constitue pas le seul critère d'acceptation, le critère de nouveauté/originalité est également nécessaire pour la publication. TRANSLANG favorise diverses méthodologies, argumentatives, empiriques, scientométriques, etc. La revue a pour vocation de permettre une visibilité des chercheurs en traductologie des régions du Maghreb, d'Afrique, du Moyen Orient, d'Asie et d'occident. particular interest to code-switching can offer new insights about the architecture of
language and the way syntactic constructions are interrelated to build a frame at the
level of the abstract structure and how distributional patterns of morphemes is reflected
in mixed constituents. So, it is the underlining structures of bilingual utterances which
make the focus of our study rather than surface realizations which would lead to the
misunderstanding of the process of language production in a language contact situation.
One of my working hypotheses is that bilingual speakers with different degrees of
competence in the languages involved in code-switched utterances show disparate CS
patterns. In earlier studies on code-switching, Poplack (1980) pointed out that codeswitching can be seen as a means of bilingual competence measurement. In fact, she
asserted that intra-sentential switching requires a greater degree of competence in the
two grammars involved, whereas inter-sentential switching correlates with lesser
competence in both languages. Following this line of thought, Belazi (1991) stressed on
the point that the degree of bilingualism influences in one way or another behaviour in
that fluent Tunisian Arabic-French bilinguals produce well-formed mixed utterances as
compared to non-fluent speakers. These findings indicate that the degree of balance in
the competence of the two languages involved correlates with the degree of competence
in code switching. Following this way of seeing things, I limit my study to fluent
bilingual speakers in Oran Arabic, Standard Arabic, French and to a lesser extent
English to examine the different patterns of CS obtained in naturally-occurring
conversations between University students.
The Matrix Language Frame model assumes that language processing begins with
the construction of a frame into the Matrix Language elements and EmbeddedLanguage elements are incorporated. The model thus discounts the privacy of surface
adjacency in constructing utterances and instead relies on principles ad hierarchy
(Myers-Scotton, 1991). The model also rests on the hypothesis that processing is a
chunk by chunk operation and that some constraints on code-switching should be made
by chunks.
