It can be determined by anodic stripping voltammetry after deposition on mercury film. The aim of this work is to study the conditions and mechanisms of deposition of Hg on glassy carbon electrode and Tl on Hg film by cyclic voltammetry, scanning electron microscopy, chronoamperometry and impedance techniques. The results showed a germination and growth of a 3D Hg phase on glassy carbon electrode. Similarly, the electrodeposition of Tl on Hg follows a 3D three-dimensional nucleation with diffusion controlled growth. The impedance measurements reveal an easier charge transfer on the Tl film.

They were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, electrondiffraction, X-ray diffraction, chemical composition and EDX analyses. The morphology of niobium-dopedmolybdenum solid solutions was shown to depend strongly on the conditions of synthesis, whereas the structuralcharacterization did not.

Comparative studies were also performed in the system HOPG(0001)/Pb 2+ , ClO 4 À , H +. No underpotential deposition (UPD) of 2D Pb phases could be observed in the investigated systems indicating a weak sub-strate±deposit interaction. In both systems Pb deposition occurs in the overpotential range (OPD) via a 3D island growth on an unmodi®ed substrate according to the Volmer±Weber growth mechanism. At relatively low overpotentials the electrodeposition reaction is mainly initiated on substrate surface inhomogeneities such as steps. The initial deposition kinetics in the OPD range is controlled by a progressive nucleation on active sites and a hemispherical diusion towards the growing Pb clusters. The nucleation rate and the number of atoms in the critical cluster (nucleus) are determined from the analysis of the kinetic data. Results are compared with previous data for 3D Pb phase formation on UPD modi®ed silver single crystal substrates.

Varied experimental conditions such as adsorbent dose, agitation time, initial concentration, pH, and temperature effects were carried out in batch conditions in view of the optimization of thallium (I) adsorption and the identification of the adsorption mechanisms in the system γANPs-Tl. The pH effect indicated a remarkable increase in the quantity of Tl(I) removed for pH values ranging from 4 to 8, an almost constant magnitude for pH values between 8 and 10, and a decrease for pH values above 10. Considering an initial Tl(I) concentration of 20 µg/L and an adsorbent dose of 1 g/L at a pH value of 8.5, the removal was achieved at 95.12 ± 0.02% efficiency. The pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Freundlich isotherm perfectly described the adsorption mechanism. The process of thallium (I) adsorption reaction, as highlighted by thermodynamic investigations, was fo...

According to XRPD data, the basal spacing of the smectite phase unit cell increased systematically up to >38 Å at 2.0-CEC of surfactants loading, indicating that they entered into the smectite interlayers and were arranged parallel to the layers at low concentrations and nearly vertical at high ones. Organoclays FTIR spectra showed a drop in the water band intensities at around 1630 and 3400 cm−1, and new specific bands close to 2920 and 2850 cm−1 were assigned to the asymmetric and symmetric stretching of the surfactants CH2 groups, respectively. Various factors, impacting bisphenol A (BPA) removal from water, were estimated in batch studies. It is shown that both physisorption and chemisorption describe the BPA sorption, and the pseudo-second-ord...

The objective of this study is to remove water pollutants like Cd2+, Cu2+ and Pb2+ in synthetic solutions by adsorption on clay from Burkina Faso. Electrochemical characterizations revealed that 90 % of heavy metals can be removed. Structural studies evidenced that almost all clay mineral species participate to the removal of heavy metals through different physico-chemical mechanisms namely ion exchange, complexation and precipitation.

The surfactants enter the interlayers of smectites causing a swelling of the clays. The used clays were collected in Siétougou and Diabari villages located in the eastern part of Burkina Faso. The solid-state intercalation was successful for all four surfactants applied, n-dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide, (n-C12H25(CH3)3NBr), n-tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide, (n-C14H29(CH3)3NBr), n-hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (n-C16H33(CH3)3NBr) and di-n-dodecyldimethylammonium bromide ((n-C12H25)2(CH3)2NBr) at different levels of the cation exchange capacity (CEC).
