The sessions in room A were providing hands-on training on nanosafety tools and gave insight into advanced cell culture models, while in room B a round table including Q&A on analytical tools, stakeholder engagement, diplomacy, regulation and risk governance sessions took place. Room A - Hands-on Training on Nanosafety Tools and Models 9:00-9:05 Welcome of the day - Martin Himly (Chair of NSC WG-A) 09:05-10:00 In silico tools for Nanosafety Research, Lang Tran (PATROLS) 10:00-12:00 Interactive training on "NanoXtract Image Analysis Tool – NanoCommons Knowledge Base", Antreas Afantitis, Georgia Melagraki, Dieter Maier, Andreas Tsoumanis, Anastasios Papadiamantis, Iseult Lynch (NanoCommons) 12:00-13:30 Lunch break 13:30-14:30 NanoSolveIT tools for assessment of human and environmental exposure to nanomate...

This semi-quantitative methodology is based on a sound conceptual framework grounded in the combination of social life cycle analysis and multi-criteria decision analysis methods and supports decision making based upon socio-economic impacts assessed over the full life cycle of a product. To facilitate its application by industries, the methodology was implemented as an Excel-based self-assessment tool. This easy-to-use, cost- and time-efficient tool can guide users through their SSbD decision making regarding newly developed nanomaterials and NEPs and can also be applied to re-evaluate existing materials and NEPs in order to improve their sustainability from a socio-economic perspective. The relatively low require...

Despite recent advancements in AM, process planning in AM has not received much attention compared to subtractive manufacturing. One of the critical process planning issues in AM is deciding part orientation. In this research, the integrative framework of multicriteria decision making for part orientation analysis in AM is investigated. Initially, quantitative data are assessed using the data envelopment analysis (DEA) technique without preferences from a decision maker. In contrast, a decision maker’s preferences are qualitatively analysed using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique. Then, the proposed framework combining explicit data as in DEA, implicit preference as in AHP, and linear normalization (LN) technique is used, which reflects both preference and objective data in supporting decision making for 3DP part orientation. Two particula...

This paper develops a pluralistic method for conducting ethnostatistical research in organizational settings. Whilst presenting practical techniques for conducting research in live settings, it also discusses how historical approaches which focus on source criticism and contextual reconstruction could overcome the limitations of ethnostatistics.Design/methodology/approachThe methodological approach of this paper encompasses an in-depth discussion of the ethnostatistical method, its underlying assumptions and its methodological limitations. Based on this analysis, the authors propose a pluralistic method (model) for condu...
