This is in line with the task of lecturers in implementing the Tridharma of higher education and the main performance indicators; lecturers work outside the campus. Therefore, all lecturers of the English department of Universitas Pasir Pengaraian contributed to help English teachers in Rokan Hulu in writing and publishing scientific articles. The objectives of the service activities are:(1)to increase teachers’ understanding and competence in writing scientific articles;(2)to provide assistance to teachers in writing scientific articles;(3)to increase teachers' understanding of how to publish scientific articles. The number of participants for the first activity were 25 English teachers SMP and 80 English teachers for the second activity. Before designing the material for language teaching, the teacher needs to understand the nature of the material development and the process that is typically involved if quality materials are to be created. This research was designed as a descriptive qualitative design. In collecting the data, researchers gave questionnaires and interview the first semester of Management students at the University of Pasir Pengaraian. Background: Issues about pre-service teachers and their teaching competences have been an endless... more Background: Issues about pre-service teachers and their teaching competences have been an endless discussion among Indonesian scholars, especially lecturers in University of Pasir Pengaraian. In teachers training programmes, courses are designed to equip them with competences and knowledge needed in real classrooms. As part of the programme, trainees have to go for a teaching practicum in schools where they can practice pedagogic skills and knowledge in real classrooms. However, though trainees have been equipped with pedagogic competences and knowledge, they still find it difficult to deliver. Thus, it is essential to explore the problems faced by the trainees. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate further phenomenon that might enlighten the teacher training program in its endeavour to produce competent teachers. This research is about descriptive qualitative, in which has purpose to make description about idiom that there in avril lavigne song lyrics. This research was done with steps in collecting the data that is by accessing to the internet, searching the song lyrics, reading and finding the idiom. Then, the data was taken with using mcgraw-hills dictionary, oxford dictionary of idioms and make the conclusion. Thus, can be concluded that there are 56 idioms was found and most of them have contextual.

Critical essay is more than presenting and summarizing. It is an analitycal work. Dealing with statement above, a descriptive research is conducted in University of Pasir Pengaraian. The aims of this research are (1) to find out students’ ability in writing critical essay and (2) to explore factors affecting students’ writing critical essay skill. After analyzing the data quantitatively and qualitatively, it is found that the students’ ability in writing critical essay is 57,63 while factors affecting their writing skill are motivation, types, length and content of texts.

Namun kenyataan yang terjadi di lapangan, sebagian besar mereka tidak bisa berkomunikasi dengan bahasa Inggris tersebut. Padahal sejak Taman Kanak-Kanak sampai mereka di perguruan tinggi mereka terus mempelajarinya, tetapi mereka tetap saja tidak bisa berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris. Untuk mengatasinya peneliti mencoba teknik belajar Kepala Bernomor untuk meningkatkan ketrampilan berbicara mahasiswa.

The purpose of this research was aimed at finding out the correlation between students’ vocabular... more The purpose of this research was aimed at finding out the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and speaking skill as well as also the students’ mastering in vocabulary mastery and students’ skill in speaking at the fifth semester students of english study program in University of Pasir Pengaraian. After analyzing and calculating the data, it was found that r calculated was 0,559 with level significance 0.05, and the degree of freedom (df= n-2) was 22. It means that r- counted was higher than r-table (0.559 > 0.404). So, there is cirrelation between two variables above. Therefore, the research hypothesis is accepted, that said “There is correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and speaking skill at the fifth semester of English study program in University of Pasir Pengaraian”.

Reading can be defined as a compulsory subject which consists of Intensive Reading and Extensive Reading. These subjects must be completed in different level. Extensive reading is the way for students to develop their competencies. However, most of students do not read in English extensively. They do not read English book, magazine, and others to improve their competencies meanwhile they are English students. In case, their motivation and scores are low. However, the lecturer has to integrate technology to improve, motivate and support them to read extensively. This research was qualitative research. The interview was the instrument. Finding showed that students’ scores and motivation increase and they were accustomed to read extensively.

Frankly speaking, some English lecturers are only able to blame their students because of their limited skill in speaking English. Though, lecturer also becomes a factor that determines whether or not the students can develop their speaking skills well. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted 2 sessions of the test, they were try out test and post test where the purpose of the try out test is to determine the validity of the test items given to the students. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative research.There were several types of gerund used in this research. Overall, based on the result of this research, the whole test result which was done by students explain that from the 30 multiple chice test items given the percentage of the correct answer from the all respondents was 50 %. It means that their skill in using gerund can be categorized in the poor level (weak).

The research problem that was formulated was “How can the pictures as media improve the students in speaking skill?” This research was conducted in SMP N I TANDUN, and the numbers of participants were fourteen. This research focussed on improving students‟ speaking achievement by using picture as media. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the research method. The subject of this study was the seventh grade students of SMP N I Tandun.The findings of this research might not have the same result in everyevery cycle. After the researcher used the picture media conducted was really help the students to increase their sikll in speaking and it can be seen from the improvement of the students‟ value in in expression personal identity.

The purpose of this research were to find out students reading comprehension of recount text taug... more The purpose of this research were to find out students reading comprehension of recount text taught through LRD strategy and taught without using LRD strategy. And to find out whether there was an effect of using LRD strategy toward students reading comprehension of recount text at the second grade of SMP MuhammadiyahRambah. This research was an experimental research, precisely a quasi experimental research. The instrument of this research was multiple choices test of reading comprehension. The participants were students at second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah Rambah. The researcher findings showed that the improvement from the score of t-test. The total score of t-test was 3.451. Based on p-value was 0.003 < 0.05. Therefore, it could be concluded that there was an effect of using LRD strategy toward students reading comprehension of recount text at the second grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah Rambah.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis recount text siswa pada kelas VIII ... more Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis recount text siswa pada kelas VIII SMP Tiga Hati Kepenuhan Hulu, menggunakan media surat pribadi.Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang bertujuan untuk memecahkan masalah pada kemampuan siswa dalam menulis dalam bahasa inggris. Peneliti melakukan dua siklus dimana setiap siklus terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan, observasi dan refleksi. Data kualitatif dikumpulkan melalui observasi, catatan harian dan wawancara, sedangkan kuantitatif dikumpulkan melalui tes. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa penerapan media surat telah sukses sejak ada peningkatan pada kemampuan menulis siswa. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan menulis siswa dari rata-rata siklus 1 (60,85) ke (73,50) rata-rata di siklus 2.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara. Berbicara adalah salah... more Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara. Berbicara adalah salah satu dari beberapa keterampilan di antara mendengarkan, menulis, dan membaca.Penelitian Ini adalah Deskriptif kualitatif dan memiliki satu variabel yaitu tentang kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam berbicara.Populasi penelitian ini diambil dari siswa kelas dua di Smp 8 Rambah Hilir di yang berjumlah 21 siswa.Berdasarkan hasil analisis, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa siswa kelas dua 'dari SMP 8 di Rambah Hilir tahun 2014/2015 mempunyai kemampuan yang baik dalam berbicaradalam berbicara. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa 67% dari 21 siswa memiliki kemampuan berbicara yang baik, sedangkan 33% dari 21 siswa memiliki rata-rata kemampuan berbicara yang sedang. Tidak ada siswa dalam kelas ini yang mempunyai kemampuan dibawah ratarata. Kesimpulannya adalah keterampilan berbicara siswa di SMP 8 Rambah Hilir adalah baik.

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas, penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMPN 4 Pagaran Ta... more Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas, penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMPN 4 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam, disana ada 14 murid, setiap siklus terdiri dari beberapa pertemuan memiliki rangkaian kegiatan yaitu rencana, tindakan, pengamatan dan refleksi. Proses belajar mengajar telah di kerjakan dengan 3 tahap yaitu kegiatan awal,kegiata inti, dan kegiatan akhir. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk memperbaiki pemahaman membaca siswa. Peneliti menggunakan 5 alat untuk mengumpulkan data yaitu tes, lembar pengamatan, catatan lapangan,wawancara dan video. Hasil ini menunjukan bahwa nilai murid. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah pemahaman membaca murid dalam kategori baik.

Belajar Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berkomunikasi dengan ba... more Belajar Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berkomunikasi dengan baik dan benar, baik secara lisan maupun secara tertulis. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan siswa dalam menulis teks naratif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya bberapa perkembangan setelah dilakkan Siklus 2. 12,5 % siswa berada pada level sedang, 81,25 % siswa berada pada level bagus, dan 6,25 % siswa berada pada level sangat memuaskan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah kemampuan siswa/i dalam menulis teks naratif dalam kategori baik. Saran untuk guru, guru harus memberikan berbagai teknik atau bahan yang bervariasi bagi siswa/i untuk mengembangkan ide-ide mereka.

The inconsistency of the quality of teaching and learning English became the first consideration to investigate the lecturers’ competency at English study program of University of Pasir Pengaraian. The researcher used descriptive quantitative design in investigating lecturers’ competency. To collect the data, questionnaires of lecturers’ competency were distributed to all lecturers. To analyze the data, the frequency score and percentage system were statistically operated. After collecting and analyzing the data, it was found that the pedagogical competency at 2.87 (closer to enough), Professional competency at 2.81 (closer to enough), Self-competency at 2.87(closer to enough) and Social competency at 3.31 (Enough). Berbicara adalah salah satu dari beberapa keterampilan di antara mendengarkan, menulis, dan membaca.Penelitian Ini adalah Deskriptif kualitatif dan memiliki satu variabel yaitu tentang kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam berbicara.Populasi penelitian ini diambil dari siswa kelas dua di Smp 8 Rambah Hilir di yang berjumlah 21 siswa.Berdasarkan hasil analisis, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa siswa kelas dua 'dari SMP 8 di Rambah Hilir tahun 2014/2015 mempunyai kemampuan yang baik dalam berbicaradalam berbicara. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa 67% dari 21 siswa memiliki kemampuan berbicara yang baik, sedangkan 33% dari 21 siswa memiliki rata-rata kemampuan berbicara yang sedang. Tidak ada siswa dalam kelas ini yang mempunyai kemampuan dibawah ratarata. Kesimpulannya adalah keterampilan berbicara siswa di SMP 8 Rambah Hilir adalah baik.

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas, penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMPN 4 Pagaran Ta... more Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas, penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMPN 4 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam, disana ada 14 murid, setiap siklus terdiri dari beberapa pertemuan memiliki rangkaian kegiatan yaitu rencana, tindakan, pengamatan dan refleksi. Proses belajar mengajar telah di kerjakan dengan 3 tahap yaitu kegiatan awal,kegiata inti, dan kegiatan akhir. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk memperbaiki pemahaman membaca siswa. Peneliti menggunakan 5 alat untuk mengumpulkan data yaitu tes, lembar pengamatan, catatan lapangan,wawancara dan video. Hasil ini menunjukan bahwa nilai murid. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah pemahaman membaca murid dalam kategori baik.

Belajar Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berkomunikasi dengan ba... more Belajar Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berkomunikasi dengan baik dan benar, baik secara lisan maupun secara tertulis. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan siswa dalam menulis teks naratif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya bberapa perkembangan setelah dilakkan Siklus 2. 12,5 % siswa berada pada level sedang, 81,25 % siswa berada pada level bagus, dan 6,25 % siswa berada pada level sangat memuaskan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah kemampuan siswa/i dalam menulis teks naratif dalam kategori baik. Saran untuk guru, guru harus memberikan berbagai teknik atau bahan yang bervariasi bagi siswa/i untuk mengembangkan ide-ide mereka.

The inconsistency of the quality of teaching and learning English became the first consideration to investigate the lecturers’ competency at English study program of University of Pasir Pengaraian. The researcher used descriptive quantitative design in investigating lecturers’ competency. To collect the data, questionnaires of lecturers’ competency were distributed to all lecturers. To analyze the data, the frequency score and percentage system were statistically operated. After collecting and analyzing the data, it was found that the pedagogical competency at 2.87 (closer to enough), Professional competency at 2.81 (closer to enough), Self-competency at 2.87(closer to enough) and Social competency at 3.31 (Enough).
