Mario Štorga is Full Professor at the Chair of Design and Product Development of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (UNIZG FSB) (www.fsb.unizg.hr). He enrolled in the study of mechanical engineering at the UNIZAG FSB in Zagreb in 1992 and graduated in 1997 with the specialisation in engineering design. After graduation he was offered a position at the Chair of Design and Product Development at UNIZAG FSB as a PhD researcher on the project titled "Model of Intelligent CAD System", funded and approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia. In 1997, he enrolled in the postgraduate study in the field of engineering design theory.
In February 2002 he acquired the M.Sc. Degree after having completed master thesis titled "Web Services Based System for the Product Data Exchange and Management". In September 2005 he acquired the Ph.D. Degree after having completed Ph.D. thesis titled "The Design Ontology - Contribution to the Design Knowledge Exchange and Management". From November 2016 he is the Head of the Chair of Design and Product Development (with break in academic year 2019/20 due to the sabbatical).
In academic year 2003/2004 by the foundation of Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport of the Republic of Croatia, he spent six months as a visiting researcher at the Technical University of Denmark. In summer 2006 he was visiting researcher at Ecole Centrale de Paris France. In autumn 2007 by the foundation of the National Foundation for Science, Higher Education and Technological Development of the Republic of Croatia, Mario Storga spent six months as a visiting researcher at the University of Bath UK. In summer 2012 he was visiting researcher at Stevens Institute of Technology, School of Systems and Enterprises, Centre for Complex Socio-technological Systems USA. In 2013/14, he was visiting researcher at the Lulea University of Technology Sweden. In 2014, he was visiting researcher at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. In 2014/15 he has been Distinguish Research Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering UK at the University of Bath. In summer 2018 he was visiting researcher at Stevens Institute of Technology, School of Systems and Enterprises. Since October 2015, he is continously a Visiting Professor at Lulea University of Technology Sweden.
He was leading researcher of the TRaceability of ENgineering INformation – TRENIN project funded by EU EUREKA programme from 2009-2011 (www.trenin.org). He was main collaborator from Croatia in the project on analysis of structure and behaviour of complex information networks in 3D immersive virtual reality environment (www.organicviz.org), which is supported by VisionAir - VISION Advanced Infrastructure for Research (www.infra-visionair.eu) in 2012. He was leading researcher of the Visually Augmented Analysis of Complex Information Structures Evolving in Sociotechnical Systems – VISINEV project funded by EU EUREKA programme from 2013-2015 (www.visinev.org). He was a leading researcher of the Models and Methods of Innovation Management in Complex Engineering Systems Development – MInMED project funded by Croatian Science Foundation, 2014-2018 (www.minmed.org). He was a leading researcher of the Team Adaptbility for Innovation-Oriented Product Development – TAIDE project funded by Croatian Science Foundation, 2018-2022 (www.taide.org).
Since 2004, he served on the scientific advisory boards for DESIGN (www.designconfererence.org, Croatia), ICED (Europe, USA, Australia), ASME (USA) and ICoRD (India) engineering design conferences series. He is member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Engineering Design - JoED (Taylor and Francis) and he has been reviewer for International Journal of Concurrent Engineering Research and Applications - CERA (SAGE Publications), Distributed and Parallel Databases (Springer), Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing – AIEDAM (Cambridge University Press USA), Journal of Mechanical Design (ASME).
2007-2011, he was responsible for the management of the Centre for Product Development, which is collaborating on R&D projects with more than 20 companies from Croatia and Slovenia.
He is a member of the Design Society (www.designsociety.org). From 2011-2021, he was a member of the Advisory Board, and in 2021 he has been elected to the Board of the Management.
Mario has published over 100 scientific papers (journal and conference) and more than 50 industrial reports. He was invited a speaker for numerous academic and industrial workshops and seminars in Croatia and abroad.
