Workers in the field are motivated to use chaotic maps for generating PRNGs because of the simplicity of their implementation. Although there exist very efficient general-purpose benchmarks for testing PRNGs, we feel that the analysis provided here sheds additional didactic light on the importance of the main statistical characteristics of a chaotic map, namely (i) its invariant measure and (ii) the mixing constant. This is of help in answering two questions that arise in applications: (i) which is the best PRNG among the available ones? and (ii) if a given PRNG turns out not to be good enough and a randomization procedure must still be applied to it, which is the best applicable randomization procedure? Our answer provides a comparative analysis of several quantifiers advanced in the extant literature.

The Husimi function can be viewed in a variety of ways. In particular, we obtain it as the expectation value of the density operator in a suitable basis of coherent states. We employ the Schwinger's oscillator model for the construction of the angular momentum coherent states.

The main tool for this characterization is the permutation Bandt-Pompe probability distribution function. We focus attention on both local and global characteristics of the components of this probability distribution function. We show that forbidden ordinal patterns (local quantifiers) exhibit an exponential growth for pattern-length range 3 ≤ D ≤ 8, in the case of finite time series data. Indeed, there is a minimum Dmin-value such that forbidden patterns cannot appear for D < Dmin. The system's localization in an entropy-complexity plane (global quantifier) displays typical specific features associated with its dynamics' nature. We conclude that a more "robust" distinction between deterministic and stochastic dynamics is achieved via the present time series' treatment based on the global characteristics of the permutation Bandt-Pompe probability distribution function.

It is well known that some fundamental partial differential equations of applied mathematics and of mathematical physics—such as the linear diffusion equation—are closely linked to the standard, logarithmic Boltzmann–Gibbs–Shannon–Jaynes entropic measure.

In such understanding we review some recent literature on semiclassical treatments. An analysis of it allows one to see that some important quantum features of the harmonic oscillator can indeed be already encountered at the classical or semiclassical statistical levels.

These quantifiers are called L. Ruiz, Mancini, and Calvet (LMC) quantifiers, following the initials of the three authors who advanced them. We wish to establish information-theoretical bridges between LMC structural quantifiers and (1) Thermal Heisenberg uncertainties ΔxΔp (at temperature T); (2) A nuclear physics fermion model. Having achieved such purposes, we determine to what an extent our bridges can be extended to both the semi-classical and classical realms. In addition, we find a strict bound relating a special LMC structural quantifier to quantum uncertainties.

Of course, staggering in nuclear binding energies is a well established fact. Similar effects are detected in other finite fermion systems as well, as for example, ultra small metallic grains and metal clusters. We work in this effort with the above-mentioned Lipkin-like, two-level fermion model and show that statistical staggering effects can be detailedly explained by recourse to a straightforward analysis of the associated energy-spectra.

Thus, the usual toolbox of statistical mechanics becomes unavailable, notwithstanding the well-known fact that the pertinent system may appear to be in a thermal steady state. We tackle and overcome these difficulties hereby appeal to firmly established but not too well-known mathematical recipes and obtain finite values for a typical divergent partition function, that of a Brownian particle in an external field. This allows not only for calculating thermodynamic observables of interest, but for also instantiating other kinds of statistical mechanics’ novelties.

Furthermore, quantum information science is strongly influenced by the advantages provided by quantum entanglement, as the latter can be regarded as a genuine resource for an efficient (better-than-classical) processing of information in certain computational tasks. The very basic notion of correlation is fundamental for the conceptualization of the physical communicational problem and, as a consequence, for the notion of information itself. Thus, the question about the nature of quantum information is close (and unavoidably linked) to the question about the nature of quantum correlations.Fil: Plastino, Ángel Luis. These systems exhibit quantum mechanical features akin to those of superconductors. We discover, however, some specific N dependent effects that can not be attained in the thermodynamics limit of ordinary superconductivity. In particular, an important fact is uncovered: there is a strong correlation between the temperature T and the number of fermions N. A certain temperature increase ΔT produces, in thermal quantifiers (such as the entropy), quite different effects if N=4 or N=25. In fact, whether a given temperature value should be regarded as high or low can not be ascertained independent of the N value.
