This model aims to depict the implications of trust on moderating learners online interactions. This work main motivation is focused on design ways to promote a stronger acceptance sense of community among learners, by giving emphasis to a more active learning through collaboration and social construction understanding. This model aims to eventually provide the means to detect potential trust violations within an online relationship, helping educators to move towards practices of reconciliation. This socio-technical trust model takes into account individuals trust predispositions and other five trust attributes and establishes their role on building relationships, and in developing underlying attitudes, behaviours and beliefs of an learning community. This paper starts by providing a contextualization on this research background and rationale, that leads to a the design of the preliminary exploratory model of model of trust, describes it validation procedure by setting results of a survey procedure.

Based on a sample of 1,530 companies from 5 countries members of the European Union (Denmark, Slovenia, Finland, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom) there's evidence that the effective tax rate is positively related to the nominal rate. The effective tax rate was calculated through the ratio between the value of the tax paid over the result before tax. When the nominal tax rate increases, the effective rate increases equally but with a slower growth. This relationship is softened if we take into account the value of the nominal tax rate, which shows that companies have the ability to manage the results in order to increase savings in tax.

Whereas it is possible to adapt evaluation methods from other fields, as Human-Computer Interaction, this adaptation may not be straightforward since visualization applications are very specific interactive systems. This paper addresses issues in using heuristic evaluation to evaluate visualizations and visualization applications, and presents an exploratory study in two phases and involving 25 evaluators aimed at assessing the understandability and effectiveness of three sets of heuristics that have been used in Information Visualization.

Advanced analytical spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques are used along with uni- or multivariate statistical data analysis, rapidly identifying up- or down-regulated metabolites in complex matrices. In this chapter, protocols for the analysis of target compounds (protocol I) and metabolomics (protocol II) of Ocotea odorifera cell cultures are described. In the first case, the target compound safrole, an aromatic ether used as a flavoring agent and also in the manufacture of insecticides, is analyzed in the organosolvent fraction of stable prototrophic cell lines of O. odorifera by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. For metabolomics studies the protocol is designed to detect and quantify metabolites in the aqueous extract of O. odorifera cell lines by using high-resolution 1D- and 2D-nuclear...

Frequently, although not exclusively, multidrug resistance (MDR) results from the action of drug-... more Frequently, although not exclusively, multidrug resistance (MDR) results from the action of drug-efflux pumps, which are thought to be able to catalyze the active expulsion of several unrelated cytotoxic compounds out of the cell or their intracellular partitioning. The transporters of the major facilitator superfamily (MFS) presumably involved in MDR belong to the 12-spanner drug:H(+) antiporter DHA1 or to the 14- spanner drug:H(+) antiporter DHA2 families. The expression of most Saccharomyces cerevisiae DHA1 family members was found to confer broad chemoprotection. The evolution of the hemiascomycetous DHA1 proteins, belonging to the Génolevures GL3C007 family, was studied using a combined phylogenetic and gene neighborhood approach. The phylogenetic analysis of 189 DHA1 proteins belonging to the genome of 13 hemiascomycetous species identified 20 clusters. Eleven clusters contained no S. cerevisiae members. The phylogenetic clusters were analyzed by the IONS method developed for Identification of Orthologues by Neighborhood and Similarity. This allowed reconstructing the evolutionary history of most DHA1 members within 10 main gene lineages, spanning the whole hemiascomycetes clade, encompassing an evolutionary history of about 350 million years. In addition, five other more species specific lineages, spanning only two hemiascomycetous species, were identified. It is concluded that 57 out of the 143 members of the DHA1 hemiascomycetous members originated from gene duplication events. In half of these duplicates, the two members belong to different phylogenetic clusters, indicating that at least one of them has sufficiently differentiated to provide potential novel functions to this complex family from which most physiological substrates remain unknown.
