The aim of this study is to determine any factors that may cause the pH of water along the Lati R... more The aim of this study is to determine any factors that may cause the pH of water along the Lati River fluctuates and tends to be acid. The method used is to take and to analyze same water and soil samples from the study area. The pH analysis of water from upstream of Lati River shows normal value (pH=6.5). However, along the Lati River, the pH value fluctuated. The pH value of water from downstream Lati is more acid, which is of 4.6. Results of soil analysis show that pH of the soil in the study location is acid (pH<6). The land that is dominated by dust and relatively has high rainfall caused the soil at this area is eroded easily. Run off processes, which brought sulfide (pyrite) material as erosion product from disposal and forest, is suspected as the cause of pH of water along the Lati River is under the normal value. Therefore, various efforts for conservation of water and soil of used mine that is generally rich of sulfide mineral ought to be a part of mining activities.
