UNR Students (original) (raw)
Free Amazon Prime for students
Amazon is currently giving free 1 year memberships to Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping) to current students with a .edu email address: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info I'm not sure how long they're offering this (it doesn't say on the site).
Just thought i'd give fellow students the heads up on this in case you haven't heard about it yet. This is going to save me a ton on shipping textbooks this year!

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had the texts for Chem 330 (Analytical Chemistry) and Chem 443 (Organic Spectroscopy and Structure) that they would be willing to let me use for the semester. I just need them for this semester and would be more than happy to give them back when finished.
Thanks

Hey guys...
So, due to some problems with obtaining residency in Florida, theres a really good chance that I will have to moving back to Nevada in December/early January and I will be moving to Reno to attend UNR
Now my question is, do you guys have any good recommendations on places to live that are relatively close to campus (I dont drive, but will prolly have a bike) that is of a decent price (im a poor college kid, LOL)
I am preferably looking for places that offer studios
Thanks in advance

So I am attending UNR in the fall and I believe in the summer. I have to do the FRESHMEN START, cause my SAT english is too low. I have a couple questions. Do I have to do advising for classes cause it says I have a freshmen advising hold, so i cant sign up for my classes.
Also are there any clubs or activites I should join or not join? Any apprael like clothes or items that are must have in Reno/UNR?
Also Im from California and I am a little worried that I might stand out or not fit in with the crowd, is there anything I could do to fit in?
Also what classes or professors I should avoid?
What fun classes should I do?
How is dorm life? I might live in argenta or white pine, or nye
The tutoring programs do they help?
This maybe asking a lot but I would really appreciate the insight for my future

I applied to UNR earlier this year, even though I knew I didn't meet the requirments as I wanted to apply through Special Consideration.
I have a 2.4 GPA mainly because my sophomore and junior years in high school were a blur of family disasters, one after the other.
I did get denied, and I've been talking to my admissions counselor and I'm trying to get a 4.0 this semester, along with letters of recommendation and a personal statement to get accepted.
But I read on UNR's website that if a student doesn't meet the GPA requirment, that an SAT combined Reading&Math score of 1050 would take care of it. My combined Reading&Math score is 1090.
Is my GPA too low for this to count?
Anyone else applied through special consideration?
Journalism major by the way.

After a couple months here in Reno, I’m missing something. I’ve found popular bars to drink in, favorite casino’s to gamble in, and good trails to hike, but I feel like I’m a tourist. Where is Reno’s vitality? After previously living in these places, I crave them. Where in Reno are:
1.) the community theatres, with cheap tickets (<$10), local artists, original plays, and wild caste parties!
2.) the poetry slams and artistic venues for poetic discourse, dramatic releases, humorous outlets, and vagabond travelers sharing their talents.
3.) the independent restaurants, with original ambiances that prove corporatized cardboard environments offer only a cookie-cutter uniqueness.
4.) the hole-in-the-wall concert venues, where garage bands strive for recognition, while enjoying their youth with rock-star lifestyles.
5.) the dive bars, with strong cheap, drinks and a youthful clientele drinking away the capitalistic servitude with inventive shots, table dancing, and after-hours hookups.
6.) the gamer hangouts, where strategy and unconventional creativity is only hindered by the disorienting presence of attractive women.
7.) the artist venues, where creativity is illustrated, not just on canvas, but in fashion, body art, and lifestyles.
8.) and of course, the late-night diners, with geeks ranting about movies, politics, and religion, with drunken and disorderly bar-rushes sobering up while getting to know the new acquaintance from the local meat market, with late-night regulars that help themselves to coffee and soda, and with the awesome servers that sit at your table to escape the conceited demands of self-righteous customers to stingy to leave a dollar.

I live in the Bay Area and am thinking about attending UNR for acadmics and baseball. I was wondering if I will find my self out of place because of all the the high school cliques, because i will not know anyone. So basically are there alot of people like me that dont know anyone? Do alot of highshool cliques come here? I just dont want to go to a school where it is high school all over again.
thanks.

I doubt anyone will respond as this community is sort of dead, but it's worth a shot.
I'm from Boston, going to UNR. As I'm all the way across the country, I haven't a chance to check out the campus in person (not yet, anyways). I'm curious to what the campus looks like, so if you have any pictures of it (and also preferably indoors as well), I'd appreciate it.
On a side note, I am thinking of living in White Pine. I am not particularly a "partying/drinking/smoking/flashing my boobies for all to see/etc etc" person, and after researching that Nye and Argenta are the loudest halls, they're out of the question for me. So for anyone who lives in White Pine or has been in it, what is it like? Do you like it? Do you like your roomies/are you guys close-knit? I'd also love some pictures too if you got some!
Gracias in advance and I'm looking forward to going!

Hello.
Why did you decide to go to UNR? Is there any other reason besides it being in-state? Why did you choose it over UNLV?
