Mangrove ecosystems in various parts of Indonesia have been explored as sources of bacteria. However, the mangrove ecosystems in Logending Beach, Kebumen District, Indonesia are still unexplored. This study aims to determine the diversity of cellulolytic bacteria using the 16S rRNA gene. Ninety-nine bacteria were isolated from Logending coastal mangrove sediments. Most of them (87.87%) had a cellulolytic activity, with the cellulolytic index values ranged from 0.25-13.96. The LG2 isolate had the highest cellulolytic activity (13.96). Molecular characterization of the LG2 isolate based on the 16S rRNA gene showed that it was similar to the Fictibacillus nanhaiensis strain JSM 082006. This result is new information on cellulolytic bacteria and might be used as a future source of cellulolytic enzymes.

The microorganisms which inhabit the compost bedding, especially nitrifying bacteria are expected to have significant role in odor emission reduction which become environmental problem around the sheep farm. This study aims to analyze the abundance and diversity of nitrifying bacteria of compost bedding obtained from sheep farm which have important role in reducing odor emission of ammonia. The 12 days, 1 and 1,5 months old of compost bedding samples were obtained from sheepfold, while 3 and 4 months old of compost samples were obtained from compost pile. Furthermore, nitrifying bacteria were isolated from compost samples by pour plate method using specific media for Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter. The results indicated that compost bedding samples with different composting time duration displayed different abundance and diversity of nitrify...

Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) have several potential advantages as a bio-preservative agent in the food industry because they produce antimicrobial substances against pathogenic bacteria e.g. bacteriocin. Our previous study has succeeded in isolating and characterizing LAB from the mangrove sediments of Logending Beach, Kebumen. This present study aimed to determine the activity of bacteriocinogenic-LAB against food-borne pathogens and their potential for fisheries product preservation. The study consisted of five serial stages, as follows: screening of LAB isolates, cell-free supernatant production and its inhibition activity, extraction of partially purified bacteriocin, bacteriocin confirmation against proteolytic enzymes, and in-vitro test of partially-purified bacteriocin against Listeria monocytogenes, Shigella flexneri, and Salmonella typhi. A total of 25 out of 99 isolates ...

The increase in soybean production and productivity has become a significant focus in the effort ... more The increase in soybean production and productivity has become a significant focus in the effort to meet global food demands. The use of environmentally friendly agricultural technologies and practices is a vigorously pursued strategy. Endophytic bacteria are one of the potential bioagents that can stimulate plant growth. The ability of endophytic bacteria to synthesizing the plant hormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) can be an alternative in the effort to enhance soybean plant productivity and ensure long-term agricultural sustainability. The objective of this study is to analyze diversity and ability of endophytic bacteria isolated from soybean roots to produce IAA. This research was conducted through several stages, including the isolation of endophytic bacteria from soybean root, evaluating the isolates' ablity for IAA production, and characterizing potential isolates based on macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. This research indicated that a total of 11 endophytic b...
