Thirty patients with hydatid disease their age range (16-57) years and twenty healthy controls their ages were matched with the patients were enrolled in this study. Blood was collected from patients and controls, DNA was extracted from blood samples, and then HLA-Class I genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction-sequence specific oligonucleotide probes (PCR-SSO). The present findings showed that HLA-A *0273 al...

The mobiles make life easier, but they pose a number of new hazards also. Objectives: The principle aim of this study was to evaluate the microbial contamination of mobile phones belonging to dentists in College of Dentistry in Baghdad University. Materials and Methods: 35 dentists (20 female and 15 male) were enrolled in this study. Sampling was taken from each participant’s mobile by using moist sterile swab impregnated by normal saline for microbial analyses. Results: The findings of this study revealed that the growth of microorganisms has found in all samples taken from the mobile phones of dentists. The most common microorganisms detected were Staphylococcus epidermidis, Micrococcus spp., Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. On the other hand, there was no significant difference (P>0.05) in the microorganisms isolated and their percentage frequency of occurrence betwe...

Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease manifested by the occurrence of ectopic foci of ... more Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease manifested by the occurrence of ectopic foci of endometrial tissue in the pelvic cavity and/or ovary. Etiopathogenesis of the disease is still poorly understood but there is a growing bulk of evidence that genetic factors and immunological abnormalities play a role in this disease. This study was performed to investigate the association of human leukocyte antigens class II genotypes (HLA-DR and DQ) with the susceptibility to endometriosis. Fifty female patients with endometriosis their age range (19 – 46) years and 30 females as control their ages were matched with the patients were enrolled in this study. Blood was collected from patients and controls, DNA was extracted from blood samples, and then HLAgenotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction-sequence specific oligonucleotide probes (PCR-SSO). The present findings showed that DRB1*0307, DRB1*0701 and DQB1*0301 alleles were found with highly significant frequencies among p...

Objectives:to estimate serum immunoglobulins level before and after surgery, and to shed light on the correlation of immunoglobulins with progression of CRC. Patients and Methodes. By single radial immune diffusion method IgG, IgA, IgM were estimated in 100 CRC patients preoperatively, and in 20 patients postoperatively compared with 35 patients control with ulcerative colitis (UC) and 50 healthy control. Results: The study showed significantly increased the serum IgM level in patients group preoperatively (p<0.001) compared with control group. On the other hand, no significant differences were observed in respect to the mean of IgG, IgA, and IgM after surgical excision of the tumor in 20 patients. The objective of this study was to compare the expression of host-derived markers interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in peri-implant sulcular fluid (PISF) with the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of contralateral natural teeth and to investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of Aloe vera gel on these biomarkers. Materials and Methods: 20 subjects aged 2545 year who have one clinically stable titanium implant carrying a full ceramic crown and one contralateral natural tooth were enrolled in a split-mouth study.Clinical parameters were measured including Plaque index (Pl I), ,Gingival Index (GI), Probing depth (PD). PISF and GCF were collected and the levels of interleukin-1β and myeloperoxidase were determined usingELISA technique at baseline and 2 weeks after application of Aloe vera gel. Results: IL-1β le...
