Syntactically, our language builds on the basic propositional hybrid language, has a primitive unary predicate symbol DEN which tests whether a term denotes or not, and permits satisfaction operators to rigidify predicate and function symbols. Semantically, our system is actualist, allows terms to be undefined, and has no truth-value gaps. But should we follow Fitting and Mendelsohn and rule out domain elements not belonging to any world, or should we tolerate them? Here we explore both options. As we shall see, while the choice makes no difference when it comes to validity, it has consequences for richer logics.

The teaching of higher level mathematics for technical students in a virtual learning environment... more The teaching of higher level mathematics for technical students in a virtual learning environment poses some difficulties, but also opportunities, now specific to that virtuality. On the other hand, resources and ways to do now manly available in VLEs might soon extend to all kinds of environments. In this short presentation we will discuss an experience carried at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) involving (an on line university), first, the translation of LaTeX written existent materials to a web based format (specifically, a combination of XHTML and MathML), and then the integration of a symbolic calculator software (WIRIS) running as a Java applet embedded in the materials, intending to achieve an evolution from memorising concepts and repetitive algorithms to understanding and experiment concepts and the use of those algorithms. 1.

The interaction design of digital learning and assessment tools directly influence the learning experience. The aim of this work is to show the process of user-centered design and development of an online assessment tool that allows setting, monitoring and displaying the achievements of educational skills and competences. The main challenges addressed were: dealing with a rich and complex educational context; researching the actual needs of the actors involved and managing the different requirements for the tool; the process to generate design solutions and the evaluation of the tool. It was evaluated in a real case scenario in a virtual learning environment of a fully online higher education institution.
