¿Qué tienen en común el arte digital, los juegos de localización (geotagging), o el audiovisual e... more ¿Qué tienen en común el arte digital, los juegos de localización (geotagging), o el audiovisual en Internet?. El estudio de las diversas formas artísticas y culturales de los nuevos medios ha cobrado interés gracias al nivel de desarrollo alcanzado por las tecnologías digitales en los últimos años ofreciendo nuevas posibilidades para la creación y la experiencia artística. La utilización de los nuevos medios, no sólo como herramientas de trabajo, sino como medios de producción, almacenamiento, (re)presentación, e interacción social es el rasgo compartido por todas estas prácticas, a la vez que define y constituye su propia especificidad. El presente libro aborda el estudio de las prácticas artísticas como punto de partida dentro de un contexto cultural más amplio, proponiendo la reflexión en tres sentidos: los objetos artísticos y culturales, los discursos y las teorías sobre los mismos y su impacto real sobre las estructuras sociales. Desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar -historia y teoría del arte, comunicación audiovisual o cultura digital, entre otros- los distintos capítulos que conforman esta obra pretenden aportar una visión poliédrica de unas prácticas en continuo dinamismo, donde muchos de los conceptos tradicionales tales como autor, artista, creatividad, industria, trabajo, cultura o participación aplicadas al contexto de los nuevos medios comienzan a hacerse permeables y su significado se amplía y modifica.

Our aim in this article is to explore videogames as new media practices, not in isolation but as ... more Our aim in this article is to explore videogames as new media practices, not in isolation but as part of broader media transformations related to the development of current digital technologies. Videogames are the product of a hybridization process between audiovisual media forms and game cultures, rapidly gaining popularity among kids and the elderly population. The experience of audiovisual consumption and aesthetic pleasure is enhanced by interactive and game amusement components not found in previous audiovisual genres such as cinema or TV. In fact, videogames situate ‘play’ at the core of the audiovisual experience, introducing innovative changes in audiovisual production and reception patterns. Our proposal is that videogames introduce a new relationship between subject and representation that goes far beyond the ‘spectatorship’ position, pointing to a playful relationship with images that may be useful for understanding new forms of media practices. Studies on public behavior in Museums are basic in order to know visitors preferences and adapt t... more Studies on public behavior in Museums are basic in order to know visitors preferences and adapt the centre offer to their requirements. Visitor studies have been carried out for a long time from observations, questionnaires and interviews. Nowadays, ICT allow us to make those processes and generate quantitative data automatically through webcams following visitors. The project Museum-Track is a pilot research in the use of technologies to identify movement, behavior and visitor's profile automatically in Catalan museums. This paper presents the first temporary results of the project, both positive and negative, and reflects about the potential of ICT in the automatic study on visitors' tracking and behavior in museums.

This chapter aims at theorising the relationship between media and practice through the lens of m... more This chapter aims at theorising the relationship between media and practice through the lens of media consumption. We wish to examine the ways in which current media practices in popular culture give rise to a ‘playful’ relationship with audiovisual technologies leading to a more active engagement with images. This engagement rests on a model of media consumption characterised by playful production, re-production and remixing of audiovisual content which shapes the emergent cultural practice of sharing amateur video productions over the Internet. We suggest that current theories of audience reception cannot provide a satisfactory account of this new shared practice, and draws instead on practice theory, the anthropology of performance and the media and recent developments in new media theories.
