During the university years, however, students have to grapple with and encounter diverse rather negative existential challenges. The present scenario in our universities revealed, for instance, through the mass media brings to awareness unfortunate situations such as the “culture of death” competing almost equally with the “culture of life” where being killed or even committing suicide in the campus is no big deal such that people seem to have a fatigue of it which is an extremely disturbing scenario. Dehumanizing factors tend to overwhelm them which are either ignored or handled inadequately even by the administrators. Life among university students is thus threatened by such and other powerful malevolent forces which should not be allowed to continue unchecked thereby triggering th...

It is even more urgent at the universities where the aforementioned differences are evident in comparison to lower levels of learning. Religion is an important pillar of society which can play significant unifying role even at the universities if properly harnessed. Interreligious dialogue that respects the real differences between religions is necessary to clear up misunderstanding that university students from Christian, Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu and other religions may have of one another. Ecumenical theology, in its search for unity and religious pluralism has not paid much attention to pneumatological vital force. The present treatise takes into account the vital force that has been closely associated with Christianity. The study however, opens up pneumatological discourse to other reli...

It is in the family that one is born, grows, molded and acquires values necessary for human interaction and existence. It is from the family that the society sprouts especially through procreation and parenting. The family, in the African context is thus a sacred institution that binds the other institutions in the society such as religion. In the contemporary African society, however, the family has changed in form and content. Responsible family hood and parenting in the contemporary society seems faulted hence the need to understand the noble task from the traditional African society. This paper examines African understanding of family and parenting in view of explicating how contemporary parenting and family challenges such as those of single parenthood can be addressed. It is done by examining the socio-religio cultural understanding of family and parenti...

Parenting children to become responsible persons has been doubted by some people due to the different factors encroaching the indispensable institution from different spheres be it social, political, religious, cultural and economic. In contrast, the traditional African society had an elaborate system through which responsible parenthood and family hood was ensured. In that society, young boys and girls were prepared step by step to be responsible men and women respectively. Any errant behavior at a given stage of development was handled appropriately by the relevant party to allow smooth transition into the next stage of life. The present study discusses how some of these African socio-religio cultural values on family and parenting can be harnessed within Christianity for a fruitful parenting even in a society where strange modes of parenting such as single parenting are taking root. ...

This treatise explicates single mode of parenting particularly that of widowed single fathers and mothers with an aim of examining the challenges inherent in this mode of parenting. The paper also creates awareness that single parents are not just single mothers but includes single fathers as well.
