The scale of the response was humbling and posed an editorial dilemma, namely whether the pamphlet should be limited to a small number of indicative perspectives, perhaps favouring more established voices, or whether it should capture the full range of viewpoints.

It is the most significant security problem between Russia and the ‘West’ in the post Cold War period and the crisis has marked a new era in global politics. Contributions in this edited volume attempt to address a number of key aspects of the Ukrainian issue. How does the crisis impact upon Black Sea geopolitics and on regional governance? How can EU – Russia relations evolve under the new multipolar system? How is NATO affected? How important is the energy parameter in Russia-Ukraine-EU triangle? This edited volume aims to discloses the diverse narratives on the roots, evolution and repercussions of the crisis, indicating the extent of its complexity and highlighting important parameters of the Ukrainian issue. We construct the effective Lagrangian with axial-vector coupling including 1/M-corrections for the heavy meson mass M by following the velocity-rearrangement invariance. As an application, we consider heavy mesons, D andD * mesons for charm and B and B * mesons for bottom, bound in nuclear matter, and we discuss their in-medium masses modified by the interaction with nucleons via pion exchanges including the 1/M-corrections. The mass modifications are affected by the gluon dynamics in nuclear medium. By comparison with the heavy quark effective theory, we find that the effects of scale anomaly become suppressed in nuclear medium. We also find that the contributions from the chromoelectric gluon are enhanced in nuclear medium, while those from the chromomagnetic gluon are reduced. We propose to use heavy mesons as probes to research the gluon fields in nuclear medium in experimental studies.

Still, Greece’s shifting negotiation tactics during the eurozone crisis have been heavily influenced by the overriding policy-making model and political leadership in the country. As power asymmetry deepened during the crisis years and while standing on the brink of economic collapse and eurozone exit, Greece did not have a viable fall-back position in pursuing its preferences. This paper explains why Athens pursued a fence-sitting strategy in EMU reform with, however, instances of foot-dragging primarily when negotiating the bailout programmes, reflecting the absence of an alternative and viable crisis-exit strategy tabled by Athens. The persuasion-based interaction between Athens and Berlin is also discussed. The paper shows that domestic politics can be indispensable to adequately explain specific small state strategies and players’ interaction in the context of EMU governance.

Trapped by history (Ottoman occupation, irredentist wars in the 19th and early 20th century), by more recent disputes in the Aegean Sea and by the Cyprus problem, Greece and Turkey would often find themselves in various international fora undermining one another under a zero-sum-game logic.

In doing so, the chapter investigates the performance of the UNWTO, UNESCO, ICOMOS and the Council of Europe as the primary shapers of a global framework for the development of religious tourism through their work on framing and norms setting, stakeholders pooling and networking, capacity building, information sharing, and in monitoring and assessment measures.

The poll highlights inter alia the divergence between the representations of Greek and Turkish public opinion in relation to the US and Russia, with Greek public opinion tending to be more pro-Russian, and the balanced view of the US and Russia which manifested itself in the responses of the Turks polled, which is not consistent with the perception that Turkey has aligned itself with Russia. This is the first poll conducted since the start of the war in Ukraine, which is transforming the geopolitical situation in Europe and the balance of power between Russia and the US.
The poll was supported by diANEOSIS, designed by ELIAMEP and the Istanbul Policy Center (IPC), and conducted by MRB and KONDA in Greece and Turkey respectively, with the participation of 1003 Greek and 1786 Turkish citizens. This followed the first two joint polls which took place in February and December 2021, with the participation of 1,022 Greek and 1,163 Turkish citizens in the former and 1,008 Greek and 2,731 Turkish citizens in the latter.
The findings of the survey also show that the Greek public has embraced an exceptionalist perception of Greece and Greek culture and values as constituting an exception in the Western world, while the Turks perceive Turkey as being unique.
Importantly, the findings also show that the EU and Western values and models are more popular among Turkey's opposition parties and less so among parties that support the government.
