Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept of important audience during the latest years ... more Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept of important audience during the latest years in Romania, both to practitioners and academics. However, both the definitions and the measurements of these processes are under constant debate. In the last 50 years, theoreticians failed to fully agree upon what constitutes a socially responsible corporation. One can find more consensus regarding the practices that highlight social performance of organizations. Using the stakeholder management approach, several studies revealed the impact of different groups in shaping the social orientation of companies. In our paper we investigated social responsibility relates aspects of small and medium enterprises in Oradea, Romania. The main focus relies on testing the applicability of international measures of CSR based on stakeholder approach. Assuming that in Romania we rather face normative isomorphism regarding social practices of companies, we expected that international measures will apply...

of the real income from the agricultural activities, the lack of serious economic alternatives, and demographic issues.
Rural tourism could contribute to the rural sustainable development through small local businesses valorising the natural,
cultural and ethnographic resources. However, most of them need the fi nancial support from private creditors (banks). Th e
survey-based research conducted among banks’ representatives has identifi ed several strengths of small rural ventures, such
as the small scale and the associated risks, the endurance to external shocks, the openness to market opportunities, as well
as some of their weaknesses: e.g. a poor management experience, seasonality etc. We have also identifi ed the actions necessary
to be performed by these fi rms to attract fi nancial resources from the banks’ side, i.e. the diversifi cation of income
sources, the association and the adherence to recognized brands and maintaining a reasonable leverage ratio. It was found
that the bank’s size does not matter, but the nature of the bank’s capital does: the private domestic banks are more willing to
fi nance such businesses. Th e banks’ involvement in co-fi nancing the EU projects could be a way to foster and strengthen the
rural businesses.

Research paper thumbnail of HISTORICAL ARGUMENTS FAVOURING THE INCREASE OF ECONOMIC COMPETITIVENESS OF A STATE BY PROMOTING FREE TRADE

History Review, Jan 1, 1940

The current debate regarding the "free trade" versus "fair trade" and the effects of the markets'... more The current debate regarding the "free trade" versus "fair trade" and the effects of the markets' opening to the domestic or regional economies is most of the times unfurled at a theoretical level or based on particular problems and circumstances. The examination of the evolution of commercial policy during the last millennium, and especially, the last 500 years, provides us with a concrete image of the fact that the countries which had been promoting policies of trade liberalization have prospered while those closing their markets by practicing a protectionist policy have reached the stage of economic decline. The experiences of Great Britain, the USA, Japan, China and Germany support this hypothesis. Therefore, next we will analyse these experiences, the economies selected as such being the most significant to illustrate the dynamics of the commercial policies from historical and regional perspectives, these particular states having also an important role in the history and contemporary of international trade, being in the "Top 5" of the world exporters and importers of goods and services, according to WTO 2007. The result of the research develop in this paper enforces the economic theory that stipulates that the free trade conducts to welfare and economic growth.
