Aim: We intend to prove the effectiveness of using physical exercise for improving static and dynamic balance in patients with osteoporosis. Methods: Our research includes 8 women aged between 50 and 70 years, diagnosed with postmenopausal osteoporosis. The patients were evaluated before and one month after the physical exercise program, using the "Timed Up and Go" Test and the Berg Balance Scale. Results: All patients included in this research experienced improvements in postural stability, static and dynamic balance. Conclusions: After performing a one-month program of specific physical exercise, with a frequency of 3-4 times a week, the risk of falls decreases, increasing the static and dynamic balance.

Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is considered an important outcome measure in neuro-oncology. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the brain cancer-specific Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ-BN20) of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) in Lithuanian brain tumor patients. Material and Methods. One hundred consecutive patients (71% of women; mean age, 58±14 years) admitted for elective brain tumor surgery were evaluated for HRQoL using the QLQ-BN20, QLQ-C30 (a core EORTC questionnaire for cancer patients), and SF-36 scale; for motor dysfunction (clinical examination); for cognitive dysfunction (Mini-Mental State Examination); and for disability (Barthel Index). Results. The QLQ-BN20 subscales had an adequate internal consistency (Cronbach α, 0.75-0.90). Motor dysfunction on neurological examination was associated with greater motor dysfunction on the QLQ-BN20; greater disability, with greater future uncertainty, motor dysfunction, communication deficits, headaches, seizures, drowsiness, itchy skin, weakness of legs, and poor bladder control on the QLQ-BN20; and cognitive dysfunction, with greater future uncertainty, visual deficits, motor dysfunction, communication deficits, headaches, drowsiness, and weakness of legs symptoms on the QLQ-BN20, suggesting an adequate clinical validity of the QLQ-BN20. A score for motor dysfunction on the QLQ-BN20 correlated with a score for motor dysfunction on the QLQ-C30 and SF-36 scales; a score for headache on the QLQ-BN20, with a score for pain on the QLQ-C30 and SF-36 scales; and a score for drowsiness symptoms on the QLQ-BN20, with a score for fatigue on the QLQ-C30. Conclusions. The Lithuanian version of the EORTC-QLQ-BN20 scale has acceptable psychometric properties and can be reliably used for the assessment of HRQoL in brain tumor patients.

Skeletal status was assessed using an ultrasound technique, which measures the speed of sound (Ad-SoS, m/s) at the phalanx. Bone microarchitecture was characterized by fractal analysis measured on calcaneus radiographs and the result expressed as the Hmean parameter, that has been shown to a good reliability of the bone texture quality. After 6 months, the calcium group had signifi cantly gained Ad-SoS compared to the placebo group (P = 0.01) and Hmean increase was greater in the active than the nonactive group (P < 0.05). Exercise and calcium supplementation had a differential effect on the bone tissue, calcium being rather linked to a systemic effect whereas exercise has acted better onto the skeletal stressed site.

This randomized trial was conducted on 36 subacute stroke patients, 19 men (52.8%) and 17 women (47.2%), mean age 65,83±9,42, with more than 1 month and less than 6 months since onset. Trunk control test was used for core stability and for functional independence were used Functional Independence Test and Timed Up and Go Test. There was a statistical difference between the baseline and final score for independence in toileting (p < 0,004), feeding (p < 0,001), dressing upper and lower body (p < 0,001), Trunk control test (p < 0,001), and Timed Up and Go Test (p < 0,000). Also, there was a positive correlation between the increasing of trunk control and ADL independence and walking (p < 0,001), and no differences between men and women and between left and right hemiplegia in the evolution of trunk control and independence in ADLs and walking (p > 0,005). Strength exercises, Kabat diagonals and PNF are efficient in increasing trunk control in hemiplegic patients, leading to a better performance in ADL and walking. Patient gender and stroke location has no influence on the evolution of gait and ADL independence.

A comparative analysis has also been carried out between the influence of the political regimes on the exploitation of geothermal water sources at the level of rural settlements and new tourist resorts during the last five decades. The comparative analysis has revealed that the development of the balneological phenomenon has been carried out sequentially. This sequence has been influenced by the political environment and the administrative factor from the period before and after the Revolution. In the period before the Revolution, all balneological sources were managed by the public administrative factor; they were maintained and kept functional, until the Revolution of 1989, against the background of a stable political environment. In the post-Revolution period, when the decision and involvement was sometimes undertaken on a small scale (private administration), and where the interest in development was focused exclusively on the valorisation of the balneological resources, it can be said that capitalist policy favourably influenced the evolution of the balneological phenomenon at the level of rural settlements and new tourist resorts. We have concluded that the capitalist period has been favourable because, when the thermal baths were found to be unanimously managed by the public administration, they were functional in greater numbers at the rural level as compared to the post-revolutionary period. We have not analysed any “policy” documents in order to make this statement.

In patients with lumbar disc protrusion (LDP), one of the most common causes of LBP, the nucleus pulposus bulges against the disc and then protrudes into the spinal cord, but the annulus fibrosus remains intact; (2) Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of a rehabilitation treatment (RT) comprising electrotherapy (ET), hydrotherapy (HT) and individualized physical therapy (PT) versus ET alone in patients with LDP. The second objective was to investigate whether there is a correlation between early RT and the symptomatology of patients with LDP; (3) Methods: The research was conducted between July 2021 and January 2022 at the Ceres Hotel Treatment Centre from Baile 1 Mai, Romania, and all the study subjects signed an informed consent form. For this study, the block randomization method was used to randomize subjects into groups that resulted in equal sample size, in order to maintain a reasonably good balance among groups. Therefore, the two groups had the same number of subjects (30 subjects) and the randomization was made taking into account the patient's motivation or the subject's willingness to receive not only electrotherapy treatment, but also the physical exercises and hydrotherapy. The eligibility criteria were: low back pain for more than three months, an MRI confirmed diagnosis of LDP (without dural compression), and ability to perform a PT program. The control group received only a classical ET program. In addition, the patients in the experimental group received a complex individualized PT program associated with HT and ET. To achieve these objectives, the study subjects were monitored for spinal mobility (lateral lumbar flexion-LLF, index fingers-ground-IFG, lumbar Schober tests for flexion-LS, Inverted Schober test for extension-ILS), trunk flexor and extensor muscle strength (LF strength, LE strength), level of pain (Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire-SF-MPQ, Visual Analogue Scale-VAS), and the degree of limitation in activities of daily living (Oswestry Disability Index-ODI); (4) Results: Comparing the evolution of the subjects, using the One-Way ANOVA between groups, we observed a significant improvement in all variables [SF-MPQ (95% CI, 7.996/11.671), VAS (95% CI, 1.965/3.169), mobility FTF (95% CI, -7.687/-3.940), LS (95% CI, 2.272/2.963), LE strength (95% CI, -5.676/-3.324), LF strength (95% CI, -5.970/-3.630), disability (95% CI, 8.026/10.441) after six months of treatment for the experimental group subjects. A clear correlation was found, using the Bravis-Pearson test, between the earliest possible initiation of RT and improvement of patients' symptoms; (5) Conclusion: The current study proves the importance of combining ET with HT and PT. The earlier the RT is implemented, the lower the pain perception and level of disability associated with the lumbar disease.

In patients with lumbar disc protrusion, the nucleus pulposus bulges against the disc and the latter protrudes into the spinal column, but the annulus fibrosus remains intact. The purpose of this study was to prove that starting an early complex rehabilitation treatment results into pain and disability reduction, and increased muscle strength and mobility in patients with lumbar disc protrusions. We performed a prospective cohort study, enrolling 60 patients (25 men and 35 women) aged between 26 to 76 years, diagnosed with lumbar disc protrusion. Patients in the experimental group registered significant improvements in all studied variables (pain, mobility, muscle strength, disability) after 6 months of treatment. The results of our study suggest that, in the lumbar disc disease, a combined rehabilitation program may be more effective in terms of pain and disability reduction,...

The aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of physiotherapy in management of peripheral neuropathy induced by chemotherapy (CIPN) in children with cancer. Method: Chemotherapy can lead to acute and long-term damage to the heart, lungs and skeletal muscles, systems needed for optimal physical condition. Motor symptoms appear which usually involve the form of distal weakness, impaired walking and balance, and impaired movement. Result: The results of research on the effect of physical exercise in cancer patients, undergoing treatment or after chemotherapeutic treatment, show improvements in the function of the systems, in the cardiopulmonary parameters, functional mobility, muscular strength and endurance. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of Pilates exercises on the ultrasound parameters of the calcaneus, for menopausal women. Method: The study involved 33 menopausal women with a mean age of 57.03 ± 2.44 years, divided into two groups, an experimental group that followed a Pilates exercise program for one year and a control group that did not practice physical activity. The evaluation included anthropometric measurements and the assessment of bone status. Result: After 12 months of physical activity, the parameters measured by ultrasonometry improved slightly, but the differences were significant only for the SOS and T-Score parameters in the experimental group (p < 0.05). The ultrasound parameters of the control group decreased slightly in 12 months, but nonsignificant. Conclusion: These results suggest that the regular practice of Pilates-ty...

Also positive results were obtaine...

After 6 months, the calcium group had significantly gained Ad-SoS compared to the placebo group (P = 0.01) and Hmean increase was greater in the active than the nonactive group (P < 0.05). Exercise and calcium supplementation had a differential effect on the bone tissue, calcium being rather linked to a systemic effect whereas exercise has act...
