Analyses were conducted to determine the correlation between vibration in the dynamic movement of a balanced and an imbalanced propeller using a laser vibrometer (portable digital vibrometer) PDV-100, to determine the correlation between propeller rotational speed and its vibration, as well as to determine the propeller’s maximum rotational speed to avoid over-vibration. The vibration analysis was conducted on a carbon fiber 2-blade propeller by comparing the results of vibration tests with the propeller blade contour. The vibration response of the propeller has been analyzed at three points, respectively the hub, the center, and the tip of the blade, to determine the point having the largest value of the vibration on the propeller running at a maximum rotation speed of 7000 rpm. The same analysis was made on two propellers: the first one of type 1340 with a diameter o...

Flexibility can be defined in several ways and according to several factors, but in order to obtain adequate results in implementing a flexible manufacturing system able to compete on the market, a high level of autonomy (free of human intervention) of the manufacturing system must be achieved. There are many factors that can disturb the production process and reduce the autonomy of the system, because of the need of human intervention to overcome these disturbances. One of these factors is tool wear. The aim of this paper is to present an experimental study on the possibility to determine the state of tool wear in a flexible manufacturing cell environment, using image acquisition and processing methods.

Evaluation of vibration level for five axes machining centers is a very important issue considering structural and functional complexity of these equipments. The paper presents researches performed at University of Oradea to evaluate vibration of TMA-AL 550 five axes machining center, equipped with a two rotating axes table, during the machining process. There have been used two methods: evaluation of the dynamic behavior of the spindle using a laser vibrometer and evaluation of mechanical vibrations of the five axes machining center using triaxial accelerometers. Measurement data had been processed using spectral analysis and time-frequency parameters, revealing frequency domains which can cause high amplitudes of vibration. Results also show that the measured vibration levels are not exceeding the accepted limits.

With the very rapid growth in adoption of off-the-shelf digital cameras for a host of new 3D measurement applications, however, there are many situations where the geometry of the image network will not support robust recovery of camera parameters via on-the-job calibration. For this reason, stand-alone camera calibration has again emerged as an important issue, and it also remains a topic of research interest in computer vision. This paper overview the current approaches adopted for camera calibration in computer vision. Also, the author's results of camera calibrations are summarized.

Wear of turbine blades is also a very complex process which is analyzed in most cases using empirical data. The model described in this paper uses cellular automata obeying a set of rules and using values of initial state parameters which were computed by FEA flow analysis (fluid pressure and velocity). The model is then adjusted using experimental data. The obtained results, corresponds to former studies and observations. Further developments can be made by alternatively applying FEA analysis and CA simulation in order to increase model accuracy.

The equipments needed for experiments in mechatronics are usually expensive. A solution to make these expensive equipments achievable is to share them with other universities or research centers from different locations in the world. The goal of our team is to build a networked telerobot system so that the Internet users, especially researchers and students, can be able to control an autonomous robot able to explore a dynamic environment remotely from their home and share the robot system with the department. The particularity of the environment, in this case, is that the experiment uses grid lines painted on the floor, for robot navigation purpose. The system which is still under development will be able to increase the number of robots. The communication software technologies are based on PHP. A specific protocol over IP was designed for communication between the server and clients. The aim of this project is oriented toward providing a telerobot system with a high degree of local intelligence in order to overcome restricted bandwidth and transmission delay of the network.
