It is an important biological control agent for agricultural and forest pests. This predatory species mainly feeds on the eggs and larvae of the lepidopteran and coleopteran species. To assess the genetic variability among the populations from different states, the samples were collected from Michigan, Maryland, Florida, Mississippi, and Missouri . The sample populations were evaluated by the amplified fragment length polymorphism-polymerase chain reaction (AFLP-PCR) technique. Four AFLP primer sets were used to generate molecular markers. The binary data were evaluated using Analysis of Molecular Variance (AMOVA) and Nei’s genetic diversity. The analysis showed that the most of the variations lie within populations. These results suggest a need of special consideration of genetic similarities among different populations for integrated pest management (IPM).

The susceptibility of a laboratory reared strain of Musca domestica to cypermethrin 10EC, fenprop... more The susceptibility of a laboratory reared strain of Musca domestica to cypermethrin 10EC, fenpropathrin 20EC, fenvalerate 20EC, and lambda cyhalothrin 2.5EC in a range of concentrations from 250 to 5000 ppm of the formulated insecticides in acetone was determined. These concentrations in a volume of 10 mL were added to 25 g of granulated sugar in a petri dish. House flies were allowed to feed on the insecticide coated sugar for 48 h. Knockdown and mortality data were observed after 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24 and 48 h and subjected to probit analysis. The results showed that cypermethrin had the lowest LC 50 (183 ppm) followed by fenvalerate (247ppm) at 48 th h. Fenpropethrin had lowest KD 50 value (2879) at 1 st h of exposure to the insecticide. Toxicity of these insecticides via feeding method is discussed.

Leaf samples of kinnow were taken from November 2012 to April 2013 from three different orchards ... more Leaf samples of kinnow were taken from November 2012 to April 2013 from three different orchards (with different ages) of district Sargodha for the study of correlation of citrus leaf miner (CLM) with leaf biochemical factors (Ca, K, Mg). Damage due to CLM ranged from 32-58%. Maximum damage (58%) was observed in the month of December with a decline in percentage damage from January to March (32%) but again an increase in April. One year old orchard showed negative correlation of citrus leafminer with potassium, while two and three year old orchards showed positive correlation of CLM with potassium and calcium. In one year old and three year old orchard CLM was positively correlated with magnesium, while two year old orchard showed negative correlation of CLM with magnesium.

Two reported subspecies of this grasshopper, M. bowditchi bowditchi Scudder and M. bowditchi canus Hebard were described based on their feeding preference to different sagebrush species. The geographical distribution of M. bowditchi is very similar to the range of its host plants and its feeding preference varies in relation to sagebrush distribution. Two unnamed forms “frigidus” and “tridentatus” along with the described forms of M. bowditchi were studied for their morphological and genetic differences. We observed no consistent difference among the aedeagal parameres or basal rings of the four forms studied. Using Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism markers, we examined the genetic relationships among M. bowditchi individuals. Although these four forms show behavioral and morphological difference...

Bootsie improves on DBOOT by supporting batch processing, time-to-completion estimation, built-in graphs, and a suite of export tools for creating data files for other population genetics software. Bootsie is released as open-source software under the Apache 2.0 license and is available for any Java SE 6 platform at
