Manufacturing, production and service industries within Libya have struggled with many problems d... more Manufacturing, production and service industries within Libya have struggled with many problems during the past two decades due to many difficulties. These problems have created a negative impact on the productivity and utilization of many industries around the country. This paper studies the implementation levels of the manufacturing control systems known as Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRPII) being adapted within some Libyan industries. A survey methodology has been applied for this research, based on the survey analysis, the results pointed out that the system within these industries has a modest strategy towards most of the areas that are considered as being very crucial in implementing these systems successfully. The findings also show a variation within these implementation levels with a respect to the key-elements that related to MRPII, giving the highest levels in the emphasise on financial data accuracy. These problems have created a strongly negative impact on the productivity and utilization of many companies within Libya. This paper studies the current awareness and implementation levels of Just-In-Time (JIT) within the Libyan Textile private industry. A survey has been applied in this study using an intensive detailed questionnaire. Based on the analysis of the survey responses, the results show that the management body within the surveyed companies has a modest strategy towards most of the areas that are considered as being very crucial in any successful implementation of JIT. The results also show a variation within the implementation levels of the JIT elements as these varies between Low and Acceptable levels. This paper is concerning with calculating the annual savings from fuel and financial expenses wit... more This paper is concerning with calculating the annual savings from fuel and financial expenses within a power plant. For this research, a visual basic program was developed and being applied for analyzing the gathered data, collected from El-Khmus power plant, Libya. The key findings pointed to an acceptable amount of savings throughout the entire operations within the studied power plant. The highest level of findings was increasing the thermal gain and the total efficiency of the boiler as a result of using the exhaust temperature for heating-up and decreasing the humidity level of the feeding water to the same boiler. It was clearly found that because of this increasing of the total efficiency, the annual amount of consumed fuel as well as the financial expenses was both saved up to 2.6%.

This paper investigates the current status of the implementation level of Just-In-Time (JIT) with... more This paper investigates the current status of the implementation level of Just-In-Time (JIT) within the Oil & Gas (OGI), Iron & Steel (ISI), Cement (CI) and Construction (C) Industries within Libya and its implication for management within the said industries. A survey methodology has been applied in this investigation using an intensive questionnaire and one-to-one interviews of the correspondent organizations. Based on the analysis of the survey questionnaire and the one-to-one interview responses, the results show that the management body does not have a clear strategy towards most of the areas that are considered as being crucial in any successful implementation of the JIT techniques. The implementation levels of the JIT techniques are found to be in the modest levels even in the organizations that have indicated themselves as JIT implementers. The research has identified management limitations within the investigated areas and has pointed to areas where the management body needs to take immediate actions in order to achieve an effective and successful JIT implementation within their organizations. This is an important finding for the future success of the Libyan industries and the similar ones.

Based on the analysis of the questionnaire survey and the one-to-one interview responses, the results show that the strategies applied by the executive management body towards most of the areas that are considered as being crucial in any successful implementation of the investigated quality and manufacturing management techniques and philosophies are not well-planned. ABSTRACT This paper is designed to present an experimental study being recently conducted for inv... more ABSTRACT This paper is designed to present an experimental study being recently conducted for investigating the effect of some fuel additives on the performance of spark ignition within a benzene engine. Three types of additives were added separately (Gasoline Additive, Gasoline Booster, and Octane Booster) to pure gasoline with a volumetric ratio 1:6, 1:7, and 1:8 respectively. Four separate laboratory experiments being conducted using an internal combustion engine at rotational speed ranges from 600 to 3000 rpm, where the three mixtures and the pure gasoline itself were used. The findings showed that there was a positive effect on the engine performance as the brake power increases by 8%, 13% and 23% at the use of Gasoline Additive, Gasoline Booster, and Octane Booster respectively as compared with using only the pure gasoline. The brake thermal efficiency ( th) was also affected positively showing its maximum value of about 8% for Octane Booster, and with a minimum value for using Gasoline Additive at about 4.7%. In addition, this study showed that the value changes in the brake specific fuel consumption for Gasoline Additive, Gasoline Booster, and Octane Booster was at the levels of 1%, 2%, and 5% respectively compared with using only the pure gasoline. This paper is concerned with calculating boiler efficiency as one of the most important types of ... more This paper is concerned with calculating boiler efficiency as one of the most important types of performance measurements in any steam power plant. That has a key role in determining the overall effectiveness of the whole system within the power station. For this calculation, a Visual-Basic program was developed, and a steam power plant known as El-Khmus power plant, Libya was selected as a case study. The calculation of the boiler efficiency was applied by using heating balance method. The findings showed how the maximum heat energy which produced from the boiler increases the boiler efficiency through increasing the temperature of the feed water, and decreasing the exhaust temperature along with humidity levels of the of fuel used within the boiler.

Key findings pointed to an acceptable level of savings throughout the entire operations within the studied section of the power plant. The highest level of findings was found to be the increasing of thermal gain along with the total efficiency of the boiler as a result of using the exhaust temperature for heating-up the feed water to the boiler. It was clearly found that the increase of the total efficiency has a direct impact on saving the amount of consumed fuel, and thereby the financial expenses were saved by an average of about 11.6%.

ABSTRACT This paper is designed to present an experimental study being recently conducted for inv... more ABSTRACT This paper is designed to present an experimental study being recently conducted for investigating the effect of some fuel additives on the performance of spark ignition within a benzene engine. Three types of additives were added separately (Gasoline Additive, Gasoline Booster, and Octane Booster) to pure gasoline with a volumetric ratio 1:6, 1:7, and 1:8 respectively. Four separate laboratory experiments being conducted using an internal combustion engine at rotational speed ranges from 600 to 3000 rpm, where the three mixtures and the pure gasoline itself were used. The findings showed that there was a positive effect on the engine performance as the brake power increases by 8%, 13% and 23% at the use of Gasoline Additive, Gasoline Booster, and Octane Booster respectively as compared with using only the pure gasoline. The brake thermal efficiency ( th) was also affected positively showing its maximum value of about 8% for Octane Booster, and with a minimum value for using Gasoline Additive at about 4.7%. In addition, this study showed that the value changes in the brake specific fuel consumption for Gasoline Additive, Gasoline Booster, and Octane Booster was at the levels of 1%, 2%, and 5% respectively compared with using only the pure gasoline. This paper is concerned with calculating boiler efficiency as one of the most important types of ... more This paper is concerned with calculating boiler efficiency as one of the most important types of performance measurements in any steam power plant. That has a key role in determining the overall effectiveness of the whole system within the power station. For this calculation, a Visual-Basic program was developed, and a steam power plant known as El-Khmus power plant, Libya was selected as a case study. The calculation of the boiler efficiency was applied by using heating balance method. The findings showed how the maximum heat energy which produced from the boiler increases the boiler efficiency through increasing the temperature of the feed water, and decreasing the exhaust temperature along with humidity levels of the of fuel used within the boiler.

A survey methodology has been applied in this detailed investigation using an intensive questionnaire and one-to-one interviews of the correspondent organizations. Based on the analysis of the survey findings, the results show that the implementation status of the JIT key-factors and their sub-elements are found to be in the modest levels across all the surveyed organisations, thereby indicating to opportunities for eliminating waste and improving the value chain. This paper presents valuable potential savings from fuel and financial expenses of a steam boiler... more This paper presents valuable potential savings from fuel and financial expenses of a steam boiler being studied at Elkhmus power plant, Libya. For this research, a visual basic program was developed and being applied for analyzing the gathered data. Key findings pointed to an acceptable level of savings throughout the entire operations within the studied section of the power plant. The highest level of findings was found to be the increasing of thermal gain along with the total efficiency of the boiler as a result of using the exhaust temperature for heating-up the feed water to the boiler. It was clearly found that the increase of the total efficiency has a direct impact on saving the amount of consumed fuel, and thereby the financial expenses were saved by an average of about 11.6%.
